Good bye 480T.....for now ;)

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

So we ended up in a hedge this morning after skidding on the icy roads. I can't imagine what car I will get next...none could replace my 480 :cryhard: :cryhard:
RIP Vanessa :(

These little swedish beasties can certainly take a crash. Glad the car did it's job and kept you safe. Thats all that matters.

Sad sight. You and the boys are OK so that's the best news I had today! The worst being the car but that don't matter. It's done a good job of looking after you all :-) RIP 480.

Thanks for all the messages.
I would love to repair her, I actually have a wing and door in my shed, but what worries me is that the gears are VERY hard to get in to so something is wrong underneath. She still drives, but sounds very loud so summit else knocked out of place there.....I just don't know :(
They will assess her on thursday when I'm sure they will write her off, but whether or not I will be able to keep her and try to repair her or not I don't know. :cryhard:

Hope you are ok, also that the car is repairable.

(I also apologise for posting elsewhere about my new purchase, which now looks a little callous. I meant no harm)

Paul.

That'll be a shonky gear linkage. Thats an easy fix

Rachel wrote: She still drives, but sounds very loud so summit else knocked out of place there.....I just don't know :(
Probably just knackered your exhaust as you flew into the undergrowth.
Another easy fix.

Fear not. The insurance chap will write it off. You buy it back for peanuts
and repair it for peanuts.

If it had been a dog before the accident I'd say get shot of it. But you
have always looked after it and she's in good nick. Too good to scrap.

You will be back in action before you know it...

(unless that sill damage goes too deep  )

Chin up.

Cheers mate....I appreciate that. For now I have covered the door to keep her dry inside. I might get a mate (who is a mechanic) to look her over before the insurance folk come over.
I can't think about it too much at the moment, it makes me

Dont forget the filler! :D
Now I look on it, a bit of polish might be needed too.

However you are unharmed and that's the most important thing.

Thanks again everyone. I have had a better look at her today, and I am quietly optimistic that she could be repaired. I have a door and front wing in my shed but I would need bumper, Front grill and indicator. Lens for fog light (which was broken anyway), new number plate and holder but that's not essential. The sill damage doesn't extend under the car much at all, all suspension seems ok, it drove find when I parked it back here after the crash but I can't get under the car easily to see. The only other thing is the gear linkage? (as Cerberus suggested)
I just hope I can persuade them tomorrow that she is well worth keeping and that I have the means to be able to repair her. If I can they will let me keep her and pay I think 80% of the market value which might not be much I know.
I went to the crash site today and found my spoiler which was in 3 big pieces (one of Lee's...much stronger than the origs!) the rear fog light lens, intact, and the coloured cover for the passenger wing mirror, with just a crack in it (the glass is unbroken to).
I would love to get her back on the road, and after my fully depressing day yesterday is nice to have some hope.
We were all very lucky to, again, walked out unharmed from 480. The doors are so bloody strong. As you can see from the pic the door took all the force from the crash...my son was sat the other side of it, and it never came near him. He just had pieces of glass on his hair! They truly are gr8 cars.
I will let you all know what they say tomorrow.
Thanks a million for all the messages they mean a lot...
