Hi all , Not posted for a while as my motherboard died and I decided to replace the whole computer .
So its a new year and time to get going on my project .First thing to do is get my new engine from
Salvo in Ilkeston . I will save £35 if I fetch it ,the question is will it fit in the boot of a 480 ?

I would think with the back seats down it should. I've had one of these Chinese lion heads and one of these drums in together. I find you are generally not limited by space inside the car, but the space available to put stuff in and take it back out again. Especially so if you want to not trash the items to be transported or the car.

Kev...If the engine is silver manifold/big clutch...great.
If its a black manifold you'll need to swap the flywheel for it to work with your ECU.
The silver has a better cam (same power at less boost), so i'd be pissed off if i had to go to a black manifold engine.

Thanks for your replies all.
Well I have got it and its still sitting in my car ready to lift out. A job for tomorrow.
It has a black manifold so I will do as you say John and put my flywheel on it. I havn't a choice
though as this engine hasn't got one
My mate is going to do a compression test at the weekend to see if its OK.

Compression test went well. Had to make a bracket to hold the starter motor to the engine block and mount the flywheel .
Removed the spark plugs and was pleased with their healthy state.
Removed the top manifold and swapped over the oil pipe to the turbo. Also removed the alternator brkt ,thermostat, waterpump
and other bits.
Bought some gunk and cleaned the engine block ,very messy job but it will be worth it.
Going to remove the cam cover polish it then paint the block.
One little problem the timing belt is 125 teeth and the engine is an early one so the kits available state 124 ?
I am thinking I will stick with 125 but will do some research tomorrow.

Its just the tensioner arrangement kev...if its the same as your old one you're on the newer belt.
Consider swapping the cam over...if you don't you'll be 10hp or so down on power, as you'll be running the tame cam on tame boost.

Ahh ok, the change must have been earlier.
- What it is kev is that earlier cars had a milder cam and more boost (end of orange on boost gauge) to achieve the 120bhp, and later had 12 o' clock on boost gauge and a lumpier cam to achieve the 120.
- Obviously if you turn the boost up on both engines to say 12psi, the later ones will make more power.
The change must have been earlier than the 1992 update.
