just a quickie i was a-ponderin' aboot
i'd never seen a p reg 480 before, i tried to see when they were out and when 480 production stopped but i had trouble with that!
theres a metallic midnight blue (almost looks black) p reg one in the same village as my parents, is it 'special' or just the norm? i think its a 2.0l ES, i spoke to the man who owns it hes a sweet old dude (although he did tell me it only had 17k on it and when i sneaked a look later it was actually 75, maybe hes quite old! )

Those sorry ass brits () have a bad habit of telling their cars model year via the number plate. It is not always accurate because the importer could've had old stock of the model year and the car may have been registered "next year".3404 wrote:Sorry, I live in Holland, what are you talking about here?
As for example I have an -87 ES that has been registered early 1988.

In Ireland we put the year of build on the plate and the county then numbers3404 wrote:oh ok it's clear now, haha. In NL the date of first release is always on the paperworks/registration form. Beside that you indeed also can make it up by the numbers & letters combination on the plates. Sort of the same as in the UK..
so a 1995 480 registered in Galway is 95-G-12345
people with too much money tend to buy a car just to have an up to date plate...

I have seen P reg 440's before so I am assuming it was registered after production had finished.
Ask the guy how much he wants for it!!

I thought it depended on your VIN, maybe I dreamt it dunno
My PUS has a registration date of 31/12/1995 and vin ends 93936 but Ive a feeling there are later ones kicking aboooot!

I reckon it was just bought/registered after production had stopped. I've seen a *handful* of R reg 440's before, but know that production of those finished in early '96... Perhaps it was hidden under a blanket or something in the showroom, then the wind blew the door open one day and the blanket blew of with it?
Anyway, get a piccy next time-i'm so sad that i'd like to see one with a P plate (not a Photoshop either!)

In the Netherlands you can enter license number here and see details about first date on the road, last registrant, valid MOT, weight, engine, fuel consumption etc.
