Its all over!!!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Its all over!!!

Post by sr480t » Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:27 pm

I have finally had enough of spending money on my Beast, i already had a bill of about £500 from my mechanic to replace the turbo and a loads of other work. So once the work was all done the mechanic went for a test run and melted a piston, we think becoz of detonation. This is caused by over fuelling then the carbon built up and this then ignites, and fucks the engine. The best case scenario is that it dropped a valve which wouuld cost to put right a best part of a grand so iam giving up. Also iam going travelling soon so need to save my money and on my return will choose my new car. Sorry to be leaving you guys but will pop in now and again and say hi, Shamir.

Bet the piston melted through running lean.....its that, too much boost or too much advance. This rich story sounds like rubbish....running rich cools the cylinder.

Your mechanics description sounds a bit like pre-ignition when i think about it...but thats the deposits getting hot from det and igniting the fuel to early...the deposits themselves don't explode or anything...and again, its lean that causes it...not rich.

Oh...and i'm really sad to hear this news! I almost forgot to say!

Sound to me like your mechanic has done a bad job and damaged the engine! speak to a solicitor as this could be a legal battle. i would say if the engine died when it was taken for a test by the mechanic and the engine failed but worked fine before anywork was done, that the work done was substandard and incorrect causing damage to your engine = mechanic foots the bill for a new engine!

or at least thats what i think!

I just went down to the garage and one of the connections to the injectors had a bad connection, therefore lean. Either way this mechanic is a good bloke and i could have him take the engine apart and find out exactly why it blew but i don't think its worth it. Can't be bothered with it anymore, yeah iam giving it up completely. Either a Honda S2000 or a VW Phateon when i return from my travels anyway, LIFE IS TOO SHORT, learnt tha after my near death car accident in my lovely Fiat Uno, Sham.
