Track car...
Hello just registered.
Quick question for now...
I'm planning to buy an old/damaged 480 to use as a track car.
I know there are several engines available
Could anyone tell me what these are and what power they output, and, therefore in your veiw what would be the one to look for for the track car?
Thanks in advance
Lewis

i would go turbo....or maybe the 2 litre
engines.
bhps are from memory so might not be entirely right lol
N/A - B18ep engine type - 109bhp
turbo - B18ft engine type - 120bhp
N/a2.0 - B20something engine type - no idea bhp
theyve all got their strengths and weakness....personally i would go turbo, but thats just because theyre wmore tuneable than the N/A types.
but the 2.0 is a pretty nippy car with a fair bit of top end...and smooth too.

The 2 Ltrs are 110 BHP. Their torque figures are closer to the turbos though.

Dont forget the B18FP/EP with 102/106 horses.
Turbo's give the best results after tuning and relativly a lot is available, but a N/A has better throttle response.
A B20F with hot cam, flowed head, itb's, light flywheel and open exhaust should be very nice. The only trouble is making/finding one...

b20f with a cam like mine feels so much more than 110bhp but im guessing the torque figures have increased more than the bhp
it tends to torque steer a fair bit if you really go for it off the line !!!!
the turbo will be a better bet on the track if you can keep it cool but if youre after torque and thrashability id go for the 2.0

I think a user on here called Benji (and this is some time back like when I first started visiting here) used to use a stripped out 2ltr for racing. He said he preferred the 2ltr for throttle response out of corners. I guess this would only be useful if you racing on a corner filled track

That would be due to 160nm of torque and no lag !! although on a straight a tuned turbo would catch and over take then it depends on the driver skill and set up of the car suspension wise

Thanks very much for the response guys, as far as I can see it will not matter providing I get a 2.0 or a B18ft model...
Thanks again, will continue to be a member!

Pity you are not in glasgow as I have a 1.7 NA 480 with an engine as strong as fcuk sitting for 3months put battery in and it turned straightaway. engine is seriuosly good body work fine runs like a bloody train. and going cheap for £120(and in full working order) and believe me well worth it. reason I have too many 480s and need to cull them.
go with a turbo.
