Cumbria Meet Pics (quite a few, so beware!)

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Cumbria Meet Pics (quite a few, so beware!)

Post by Dan the 480 Man » Mon Aug 20, 2007 4:10 pm

Well, it's all over bar the drying off (still!). The car covered 690 miles in total, didn't miss a beat. The jouney was comfortable despite the 'low-ness' of the car-and i only got uncomfortable because i went 5 hours without getting out the car . She was sweet as a nut there and back. She was averaging 37.1 to the gallon on the way there & back (most of the time anyway ;))

I saw about 12 480's on the road...those being the ones at the meet  I saw one 480 on the whole journey, and that was on the M6 near Junction 20, a flamer coming off the motorway being driven by a woman, she didn't see me though, i was 6 lanes away!

Despite the awful weather, it was a really enjoyable weekend away. The cars of the stars museum was...interesting. Some cool cars, but the museum wasn't very big. Still good to see screen classics though. The campsite was nice-wash/shower facilities were nice (anything dispensing hot water got a thumbs up )-pub was a little small and the eating area was small, but it was ok. Campsite was nice too, despite being saturated.

We didn't do the convoy drive as planned-the weather was soo bad, that the descsion was made to head back to base to find a warm Pub & get some food, but the drive to the museum in Keswick was nice with plenty of good scenery so that made up for it-plus we got a good group photo, and it must have looked cool as a bystander in Keswick town centre as 11 480's cruised through....'wow, look at all those Daddy! What are they?'. 'Why, they're Honda Aerodecks son' It was really good to meet alot of new people-and catch up with some familiars too-everyone who turned up was really positive the whole weekend, and not one sad face :D. And a big well done to BarnsleyGT junior-she remained dead happy all weekend with all that rain :D

And this really is going to sound odd, but i don't care-i actually feel a little emotional (told you...odd)-it was soo good to see so many 480's together-old & new. I'm always fairly enthusiastic about the car, but this definately gives the enthusiasm an extra kick-it was a really great meet with some really great people-of which i'm really glad i met. So here's a big  to all of you-thanks for coming :D

So, enough rambling, the pictures! There are more here, but i'll pop a selection below.

Ah Dan....the pics are look great. All the 480's look gorgeous together. Shame about the damp weather, but it didn't seem to dampen spirits. My 480 is sad not to have been there too, but maybe one day. Big love to all and their 480's.....group hug Image

Well some time later and i have pics to share! They're just some camera phone snaps but give a good idea of the experience.

Meeting at Strathclyde Park
Image

Le-Mans style start and we're off, at least until we had to stop for sweeties that was...
Image

Nice borders scenery on the way down
Image

After arival, tents set up it was soggy already
Image

Leaving the site on saturday morning, damp but nothing beats a convoy!
Image

Kev in front and Ross behind, 3 red 480's in a row :D
Image

Stopped for refreshments
Image

Got some odd looks for sure when this many 480s drove through small towns
Image

I like this picture because of the name on the shop, i hadn't even realised till i got home: spooky!
Image

And the final convoy back to Scotland again
Image

Was a really good meeting, really glad we made it down, but if this is summer weather, can we have next years meet (dare i say it?) in a b&b?

The car performed well the whole time, but i was aware of a slight oil leak, some spirited driving on the road from the site to the motorway (great fun!) seems to have made it worse, and i must appologise to Ross and Murf for covering the front of their cars with a thin film of my engines vital fluid. The oil light was just coming on as i got back to glasgow, and now i'm off outside to see if i can sort it. Looks like its either the oil feed to the turbo or perhaps the oil pump itself, so i may be back online to ask for assistance!

Hope to see you all soon, thanks again Dan for organising.

Owen
