Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Word.
Just been outside having a tinker, and realised the creaking on my door was actually the clips on the underside of the doorcard (the 3 little clips that the card sits in). When i moved the doorcard, they creaked, really loudly.
The solution? A little bit of Vasoline rubbed onto each clip and a smidgin' on the actual bottom of the door card itself. The result? Creak free doorcards!
So, so sad...
Anybody else have any little tips they've picked up over the years?

I have a little dial on my dashboard. Whenever I hear a funny noise, I turn it up and then I cant hear it anymore. I think Alpine make this device!
When the door card carpet / leather trims keep falling out as they've been removed a few times, I use velcro discs. Picked more up in Lidl the other day...

I've got an asda reciept wedged inbetween the dash and centre console in the RR to stop an annoying squeak. Its my favourite method for fixing rattles, the 480's got one in the dash, as had my mondeo! My old fiesta suffered from squeaking door hinges, never could seem to stop them though.

I've removed the clips on the underside of the doorcard and replaced them with screws, you can't see them unless you look under the door and the annoying squeak has gone
Other than that there seems to be alot of blu-tack between various bits of trim to stop them making noises, still got a few more to track down and silence though

Yes, i also have aformetioned piece of surplus receipt paper absorbing the creak from the dash surround. One finds it prevents creaking dash anomilies 99% of the time (bearing in mind that 89.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot). Therefore a trip to Asda may be more beneficial to your 480 than just your Girlfriend needing more work trousers. So there.

I tried Blu Tak, but gave up. I have padded the insides of my Dash surround with foam though, and it has made a noticeable difference. Next job? Stop the plastic trim rattling at the bottom of the windscreen which you thought was the dash still rattling!

WOW omg, I never realised the seatbelt arms did this.
They actually fold downwards to lie flush/parallel with the column by the drivers door. They fold out of the way so your gays mates (or a friend of a friend in my case) can'[t break them.
Only just realised that they fold oh so neatly to move 100% out of the way, just move the around
I really never realised, wow hopefully I won't need to break another one

Man, that's great- innocence is bliss as far as 480s are concerned!
They can be full of pleasant surprises to counter all of the horrible ones!

I dunno, i've never tried! It might solve the noise if you go to that one near you, the car will be gone time you get back.

Since my car burned down, All squeeks and rattles are gone...
Really good solution, I now drive a 340 to get to work.
A projectcar (480) sits in front of the house to be viewed.
So enjoy the best of two worlds: The looks of the car, without the rattles, and the drive of a car that actually works...

Since removing my drivers door card to fit my window regulator the damn thing just won't stay in. I've tried adjusting the clips, blue-tack and even Velcro but to no avail.

Everytime I close the door, out it pops.
I've got a creak in my passengers’ door somewhere. I’m pretty sure it is the door pocket, but it only seems to creak when I don't have a passenger in the seat...
Apart from that, my whole dash board has started vibrating and it keeps getting worst... Or maybe it's just doing my head damage!! I've tried wedging cards between it, sticking it with blue-tack and other silly methods but nothing has worked so far. The only temporary solution is to have my girlfriend rest her feet on the dash, but she complains that it starts to get a bit comfortable after two minutes!
I keep saying I'll spend a day and sort everything out, but everytime that date comes round, I chicken out!
