speaker wiring
I was going to upgrade my front speakers with some better 13cm pioneer ones (that i used to have in the rear until i made my shelf).

The problem is that the original 13cm volvo door speakers have four connections on them. The rear volvo speakers had just two so that was just a straight swap. I presume two are for the tweeters.

How do i go about swapping the speakers? any quick answers would be appreciated as my doors are in pieces at the moment.

I just didnt bother connecting the tweeters because my upgraded one where three way type (built in tweeters).

i just taped back the volvo connectors and connected the wires coming from the radio to the new ones.

ste

Re: speaker wiring
When I upgraded my front speakers I chose components which came with a good cross over.

I take it the Pioneer speakers you are wishing to replace them with are something like the TSG range of speakers.

This is what you do.
Cut all for wires and strip them. Twist together the positive from the tweeter to the positive of the Pioneer and connect a BLUE spade connector. Repeat with negaitive.

For best results buy a small capasitor which you connect in between the pioneer and the tweeter. This will stop all low frecencies getting to the tweeters.

I ended up putting the new pioneers in and leaving out the tweeters. I just taped up the wires for the tweeters. The sound is so much better, louder and clearer now that I dont miss them.

It was a little unbalanced before as the old front volvo speakers couldn't compete with my set up in the back.

Re: speaker wiring...
Dam good speakers but the crossovers are very poor!!

Your best bet would be to power them through an active crossover via an amp.

Re: speaker wiring...
I fitted the blue 6inch speakers by Kenwood that are about £60 from Halfords into my Spitfire and they are good for what they are, and they do 13cm ones that should slot into the Volvo fronts. Has anyone tried JBL GTO's? The 4x6 were a huge improvement on the Blaupunkt ones in my old Porker, but what are the round 13cm ones like? Also, where can I put my Infinity Kappa 6x9's without fabrication, preferably a stealth setup, as they sound bloody ace!

Re: speaker wiring...
The JBL GTO is an ok speaker. The tweeters can start to get harsh to the ear after a while. But they can give and take a lot of power. But in the stock place in the doors you will have to make a slight mod. Nothing major. AS for the mid, as long as you cap them at 60hz they'll do you proud. They will take less the 60hz but not for long.

As for the 6X9 without modding anything how about in the back panels. If you take off any badges on the grills they wouldn't be noticed.

Re: speaker wiring...
Jamo steer clear of the Sony Xplod range full stop. If you are going to run any power that is. If you are going to run a amp to power your components and don't want to spend the earth on components try either PRO PLUS, Magnat or JBL. A lot of people will say PRO PLUS are pants. But I would rather have a pair of PRO PLUS over JBL.

As you would be using the filters on your amp there wouldn't be that much use in you using an active crossover. But don't rule out passive crossovers as these can make a major difference to any system

Re: speaker wiring...
Had mine done in the Birmingham Market carpark. Was a total stelth install and it wasn't even switched on.

As for the 6X9 i think i might have sorted it. Put your 5inch in the back and the 6X9's in the door.
