Born we've got a problem
With our nice cars getting older and older it will become more and more difficult to find a workshop with mechanics who are familiar with all the 'ins and outs' of our beloved mechanical wonders.
I know where I have to turn to within let's say a 56 miles radius from where I live but beyond there I am lost in space so to speak <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">
I wouldn't even know where to find the official Volvo dealer. It might be an idea to prepare some sort of a listing with all workshops we know / use and categorise them by "country - region - town - what ever" so that whenever those little gremlins take over during a trip and the RAC / Wegenwacht cannot come to our rescue we will know where to turn to.
We could of course start with de official Volvo dealers <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Levensnevel

480 specialists
Hi
I live in the same village as where it is build. But whenever I step in to a local garage mentioning "volvo480" they all start cursing and yelling at me. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

A volvo 480 is not a car, its an innovation of the eighties which they stopped making, a real prototype.

Its also not a car meant to be serviced or repaired.
For instance : try to remove a starter motor (!)

I donot go to a volvo garage, since they are so damned expensive, and they also donot know everything. Exept for parts maybe.

I think all garages have theyr errors, and it is a matter of taste (and money)

The garage I go to in Born are ex-volvogarage specialists, working for them selves now. They are specialized in a.o. Daf and Volvo. The hours rate is reasonable.

I think its a good idea to recomment euro wide 480 garages, like to hear more about it.

JPF

You're right !!
Volvo dealers are an absolute rip off.
My complete major service ( timing belt etc ) would have cost £350 at the dealer, but the specialist I use charged me this for the service AND replacing rear discs, pads.
A garage near Worksop if anyone's interested.
I trust them, and their service stamp confirms volvo specialist status.
Gedda<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o">

Re: volvo specialists
I used to live in Worksop - where's this Garage? If they are good and cheap, I may be prepared to make the Journey from Barnsley...

1995 480 Turbo, Flame Red Metallic, Jacquard/Leather

The garage is in Carlton in Lindrick ( South Carlton Motors ), and they have a forecourt in Oldcoats where they sell mainly Volvos, 2 480's at the mo.
They have also replaced my "downpipes" last year for £30 less than the run of the mill exhaust places; I daren't aproach Volvo for the cost of such a part.
PS I'm not on comission.................honest.
Gedda<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/nerd.gif ALT="8o">

Re: volvo specialists
Great idea!!
Can anyone recommend a Volvo (or 480) specialist, or even a good, honest, cheap garage either in East Middlesex, West London (from Rickmansworth-ish to Feltham-ish and a bit either side...) or in the Bournemouth-ish areas?? How much is the going rate for cambelt, tappets and diagnostics service nowadays??
