Removing front spoiler

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Removing front spoiler

Post by Joey » Fri Dec 06, 2002 1:13 pm

Could somebody tell me how the front spoiler is fixed to the front of the turbo models?

It'll make life easier for me if I know what tools to take to the scrapyard rather than the whole tool box!

And will it be a straight forward swap to take it off a turbo and put it on my ES?

THANKS!

Front spoiler

Are you talking about the whole bit with the grille, fog lights and all, or are you only referring to the lowest forward slanting "lip"?
I can only help you with the one immediately below the bumper - AFAIK it's only mounted with rather large pozi/Phillips type screws and then around 4 bolts (size10) that connects it to the shield under the engine. The bolts are usually no problem but the pozi/Phillips ar quite usually quite rusted. You need to remove the foglights too, they are connected both to the car and the spoiler. I think there's a temperature probe or something mounted in the spoiler/grille as well.
Fit should be the same between turbo and ES.

The spoiler is fitted with screws... easy to dismount, you don't have to dismount the foglights... not on my cars anyway...
Real power and Turbo-shit

OK, thanks guys. When I eventually find a turbo i'll take my screwdrivers and a big tin of WD40.

I spend the other day going round every scrapyard I knew of but I could only find ES models so the search for a spoiler goes on. Got a few goodies though so I suppose it was worth it.
