Pop up lights failing

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

pop up lights

Post by member81 » Sun Dec 01, 2002 4:35 pm

hi
The pop up lights are controlled by a relay, situated under the cover in the engine bay.On my car the unit is located on the top of the bulk head above the fuse box on the drivers side (uk).
I have suffered the same problem which started with an intermittent problem, it would only happen on the odd occasion. When the lights were down and the light switch was put on, then the headlamp bulbs lit up the ground under the car.when I manually raised the lights and then closed the bonnet, then the lamps retracted.
The local dealer fitted a new relay for only a small fee above the cost of the part....no problems since....hope this helps....john

Hi
The volvo part code according to my bill is 3412653-2. The cost in 2000 was about 30 euros. I'm not sure, but the location of the relay should be indicated under the bulk head cover.
If you have a problem finding it, I will check mine at the weekend.........john

Hood switch

Post by vins480t » Tue Dec 03, 2002 11:27 am

I had a similar problem a while ago and I checked everything metioned b4. After a while I found out the hood switch was broken and that made the lights stay down. It works the same way around when you want to wash the popup without them being on. You just popup the lights and the pop the hood the popup stay up and you can switch of the lights.

Vinciente
