Sunroof fixed! The list gets shorter!

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Sunroof fixed! The list gets shorter!

Post by TimC » Sat Nov 23, 2002 7:55 pm

Hi

I've just fixed my sunroof! As usual, it was one of the little pushrods that had broken. Had to really bang and force it to get it open far enough to take out the screws holding the glass in. It is actually really easy to do though.

So far I have now fixed/replaced:
- Sunroof
- Drivers seat back tipper
- Drivers side electric window mechanism
- Passenger side seat belt arm
- Drivers side seat belt arm
- Halogen dash bulb
- Drivers side door mechanism
- Day running light bulbs

I still have the following to fix/replace:
- Heated rear windscreen and mirrors don't demist
- RPM gauge
- Stereo (coz its crap)
- Heated seats (don't think I'll bother)

I reckon the heated screen and mirrors aren't demisting due to a dodgy connection in the CEM.

As for the RPM gauge, I have no idea. I'll have one last go at it and then I'll get a dash from a scrappers. If that still doesn't fix it, then I'll get a 3rd party RPM gauge and fit the mechanism from it into my dash. Just need to make sure it has the same range and calibration <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

Once all this is done, I will be putting in a mini pc with 5.6" TFT screen. This will be for GPS, mp3s and DVDs. Might even put a video camera in <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> !

Cheers

Tim

RPM Gauge - Where is the ECU?

Post by TimC » Sun Nov 24, 2002 3:21 am

Hi again

I've been looking through my haynes manual and I have found this:

There are three connections to the gauge. Positive (+), Earth (-) and signal. The wires for these are Green-White (+), Brown (-) and Brown-Blue (signal).

The power connections I can get from pretty much anywhere in the car. However, I can only get the signal from the ECU at connection number 1.

Where is the ECU? As far as I know, it is in the drivers side (in the UK) footwell, the opposite of the CEM.

Cheers

Tim

Hi again

I fixed my rear window heater today. Turned out to be a bad connection in the CEM.

I found the ECU and checked for continuity between the output signal for the RPM gauge and the gauge itself, which was fine. So now I know the gauge is receiving all three inputs. Therefore the gauge must be faulty. I'l get another from a scrappers <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> .

Tim

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd add to the list of things I have fixed <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> .

I've now sorted my RPM gauge. I was right, it was the gauge itself that was faulty. I got a new instrument panel from Salvo (www.salvogroup.co.uk) for £75. The computer didn't work on it, but I'm not bothered about that. I just removed the RPM gauge from that and popped it my panel. Job done.

Just the stereo and heated seats to go! Not sure I can be arsed with the heated seats though <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o"> .
