No clutch today, my lover has to wait...

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

No clutch today, my lover has to wait...

Post by TheHawk » Sat Nov 23, 2002 6:48 pm

Finally it happened! The clutchwire broke....

It had been sounding "strange" for the last 4-50000 km.

But now, at 158000 km it broke. I have always wondered how it would feel when this finally happens.
Well, it was so easy. The clutch just hit the floor with a
"dong". I was in my hometown, so I just drive on an parked the car outside my Volvo workshop. I hope they fix it the first thing on monday morning....

Well, my idea yeaterday evening was to take a long drive to Gothenburg today. That is appox 600 km...
But I, luckily, decided to stay, and maybe go next weekend.

Clutch repair? Expensive

Post by OlofJakobsson » Sat Nov 23, 2002 10:10 pm

Hi there!

I made some called when my clutch broke down a few weeks ago, and Volvo in Gothenburg (bilia in sävsjödalen) gave me the price 11100 sek (1110 €) for a complete change, so it's quite expensive...

Maybee it's just the clutch wire? In that case, be happy...

Otherwise: check around, because Volvo shops are quite expensive.

(It's not that hard changing it yourself)...

Olof Jakobsson

True: I tried to replace the wire once, but be sure you are with someone else as getting the new cable from the engine bay to the passenger compartment can't be done alone... (well, maybe it can, but I wouldn't recommend trying it) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
Cya,

Daniël Wilten
Volvo 480 ES Dark Green Metallic, 1996
Volvo 480 ES Graphite Grey Metallic, 1987

Repair done - what a different!!!

Post by TheHawk » Thu Nov 28, 2002 10:47 pm

Today the car was repaired.

Total cost approximate 80 ecu.

The car feels like new....A soft, easy, soundless clutch. And its just only a new clutch-wire! The clutch itself is the original one from 1990! The mileage is 1580000 km.

Before it broke, and perhaps the last 30000 km, it has been very stiff. You really had to push it hard. And than the quirking sound... Now it is TOTALLY soundless.

I say it again
