TwoTone Register !

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

TwoTone Register !

Post by Sophie » Tue Jan 02, 2007 11:04 am

Hiya all,

v480_be from the french 480 forum is trying to create a register of all the TT's, living or dead...

If you could send reg, year (1st reg if poss), engine size and VIN to dfonck[at]caramail.com or to v480_be on the french forum to help him out in his quest.

Thanks !!

I put the guy's email in the 1st message replace [at] with @ it's just in case of spammers picking his email up.

If you ask him, I'm sure he knows how many were made.

Hi all. First of all, thx Sophie for your introduction and, for the others, sorry for my English (I'm coming from the South of Belgium and my mother tongue is French).
Considering the number of my posts on this forum, I'ld be considered as a real "Newbie" but it's not really true : I drive on 480 since 1990 (since 17 years, so !) and I've owned 6 in total (3 to drive with and 3 for spare parts). Now, I still own 2 Two-Tones (called Twinline in Belgium) : one ES and one Turbo. I want to keep both as oldtimers (if possible)
Sorry k999ste but I don't know the exact number of TTs produced (maybe, someone here in the Club knows). I've asked Volvo Cars Belgium for that but they can't give me any information. However, they told me that, in December 2006, there were only 22 registered TT's left in Belgium (on a total of 456 Volvo 480) ! So, thinking that the TT is a very special (and limited) edition, I've decided to try to identify, as far as it's possible, a maximum of those cars "dead or alive" ;)
Until now, my database contains 56 cars (mostly seen on the internet and identified with their number plates) : 1 in Austria, 7 in Belgium, 6 in Germany, 8 in France, 10 in Great Britain, 2 in Italy, 1 in Lituany and 21 in The Nederlands. But there are a lot of problems : in GB and in The NL, I think that the number plate is 'bounded' to the car ; but in Belgium or in France (for example) the number plate is 'bounded' to the owner so one car may have several registrations ! The only way to identify a car without any doubt is, of course, his VIN ! Thats why I need your help ! So, I ask each owner of a TT to give me the following informations about his car : type (S, ES, Turbo), number plate, land, VIN, 1st reg and, finally, if the car is dead or alive. Every information is welcome here, by MP or at the above-mentioned email address. Thx a lot by advance.

Mine is a two tone, I don't have the vin handy, it's a '93 ES limited edition 1721cc, it's very much alive and in pretty decent condition.

Thx k999ste for « updating » this post. Until now, I’ve received the full specs from 3 members. But I’m sure there’re more TTs in the Club … so, I’m waiting for the others ;)
Until now, I’ve identified 56 cars and 13 VINs (6 in Belgium, 2 in UK, 1 in Germany and 4 in France)
Some early conclusions :
- the first TTs were delivered in Belgium and in Germany ; later, in France and in UK
- TTs were from model year 1992 (ENC) and 1993 (EPC). Until now, the oldest registration is april 1992 (my ES  ) ; the youngest is february 1993 (Hailesmail)
- Only 1.7 ES and Turbo were delivered in Belgium and in Germany ; 2.0 S in The Netherlands and in France ; 1.7 and 2.0 ES (Limited Edition) in UK ! I also have Turbos in Italy and in Austria but I don’t know more about those lands.
In order to complete the above-mentioned informations, I ask again TT’s owners to send me the specs of their car (type, land, VIN, number plate and first reg). Thx by advance.

Unfortunely the TT never came to the swedish market. I have no idea why. but it would have been great if someone in Sweden imported one.
It would have been the very first TT in Sweden :D . (I don´t have more space for any cars :( ...)

Dont forget mine - well the one I sold anyway.
Details passed by pm - I thinks its a great idea but I missed the post cos I was moving house, living without broadband selling and buying a 480's. I miss the two tone - I now realise I pereferred it to my recently acquired GT - hence the pic stays in my sig block .

Thanks for all, folks :D

Of course, TT Turbo was only produced for Germany, Belgium and Italy. There are a few in Holland. France also never had the TT Turbo.

Thanks Ted Clutch and Steve for your informations. And now, a little call to all the others ... especially those for which I don't have more informations:

- Austria (I don't know if the TT was produced for Austria or if there were "German imported cars" ?)
- Germany
- Italy
- Hungary, Czech Republic, Lithuania (imported cars for sure)
