Volvo bodyshops

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Volvo bodyshops

Post by Volvo480 » Fri Nov 08, 2002 3:00 pm

I just want to say that I have had a terrible experience with a Volvo bodyshop after my car was involved in an accident. No fault of my own.

My car needed a whole new offside, bonnet respray, nosecone respray, new aloy wheel etc. The dealers quoted £1700 to fix. The insurance company said theyd sort it. The car went in.

Should have taken 4 days to do, but took two weeks because of problems with painting?!?! Finally the car comes back with a new door, front wing and partial respray, but still damage to bonnet, alloy wheel etc.

They removed a big screw from the nosecone and worst of all:

It came back to me with damage to the nearside front wing. They had crashed it in their car park and told me I did it.

I have given them an earful, but what a bunch of wasters. I have now decided to sell my 480 and get a Saab.

Sorry its a long story, but please be aware of the low life out there.

I've had a similar experience some time ago, though not with Volvo.

In my case they dropped something on the roof, causing a deep dent. When I received my car back they had just washed it, it was still wet. As a result of all the waterdrops on the roof, I didn't notice the damage at first. I noticed it when I got home, when the car was dry.
Lucky for me, this was a company car, so I complained to the lease company immediately. I was furious because of this trick they played on me. Of course the damage was repaired on their expenses.

My lesson is that I always inspect my car thoroughly when I receive it back, especially when it's not my own, trusted workshop.

Too many cowboys.

RichardZ

By the way: good luck with your Saab. They're splendid cars.

On a plus note, and because l want to mention it as often as possible, l just got my 91 480 turbo completely resprayed and restored, including new arches, and front wing with lead filled (old style) welding rather than filler for £1000 plus VAT. They even wax oiled it without even mentioning it.

Looks like new. In fact some things like doors and windows now open/close better than they did before. The place is Body Centre in Norwich and they are a family outfit. Picked 'em when l went for a quote and saw a top end Alpha and a porsche boxster being done up.
