I need a glue...

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

I need a glue...

That doesn't go yellow with age. It's for the clear rear reflectors. I took the old ones off and the Araldite (spelling) i used made them go that orangey colour round the edges:

Anyone know of a good glue that won't go yellow/orange, but is good enough for outside conditions?

External grade clear silicone! It holds the rest of our cars together!

Glues might eat the plastic too.

Don't they have a rubber seal round originally?

They do, but not on the reflector. The reflector is glued to the white plastic mount thingy, and the rubber gasket sits underneath that.

Is this external grade stuff fairly strong then? And is it expensive? :)

The best glue for acryllic, which is what lights are made of, is Weldon Cement. It is made in the US and is used in the plastics industry. Acryllic is very difficult to glue successfully with anything else. I bought a tube of it from a plastics company here in Adelaide. I looked it up on the internet and they were second on the list. It is not available in hardware stores. It is supposedly carciogenic so you need to wear gloves, but it works like a charm and a little goes a long way.

When the lens came of one of my long range driving lamps, I just used ordinary clear silicon sealant such as you would buy in a DIY shop (just make sure its the stuff that smells of vinegar and not the acrylic stuff, as the acrylic is water based) and it worked a treat, you just have to make sure everything is spotlessly clean and dry.
