Mystery Spare Bulb

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Mystery Spare Bulb

Post by Cerberus » Wed Oct 11, 2006 6:37 pm

Ok.. I'm going round the bleedin twist here...

Found in the glovebox of my newly-aquired Turbo...

A bulb... Pretty small.. in a black plastic holder.. looks like it's
for something in the dashboard...

It's still in it's plastic Volvo bag.. with part number 3342604

I need to know what it's for... help... it's making me mental...!

Cheers!
Cerbie

Bizarre! I found a handfull of those in one of the cubby holes when I bought Tonee. Do people collect them for a rainy day?

£12  - it's just a little lamp in a bit of plastic!

It also fits the standard Volvo clock. But you fancy digital upgrade folk wouldn't know about that. ;)

When I redid my dash bulbs a while ago (not the main instument console) I needed just one of those for the clock and the rest were those "naked" 1.2W bulbs (i.e. the same without the plastic surround). You can get them anywhere for 75p but GSF sell them for 35p plus VAT.

Money Saving tip!

You can gently extract the blown lamp from a £12 volvo plastic unit if you first break the tiny soldered contacts at the bottom. Then take a 1.2W lilliput bulb (41p from GSF), bend the contacts out slightly and slide it into the plastic holder, instantly saving yourself £11.59 :D
Tonee: '93 Two Tone. High mileage but nice 'n' tidy.
Sheba: '91 ES Paris Special. Love that leather, baby. Scrapped and used as a spares car.

might be confusing the bulbs there boys.....

the IC bulb is a halogen one.....the little ones monsieur macaroon is refering to are the 'everything else' bulbs.

also as a tip top saver tip - use christmas light bulbs....as long as theyre the same wattage etc...they work....can have diff colours....and make you feel all seasonal!

Post by Cerberus » Thu Oct 12, 2006 1:35 pm

If it is an info centre bulb I'm going to do my happy dance all day long...

Looks like this...
Image

The ES needs an info centre bulb... So if the Turbo came with a 'free'
one then that's 12 quid saved!!

(So I can deduct £12 from the total price of both cars... bringing it
down to £198 for the pair... woooooo!)

Xmas lights bulbs...??? and I thought I was a wrongun!

Cheers

Ah, that makes sense. £12 seemed a lot for a little bulb - even for Volvo - but I like the idea of the X-mas tree lights, Rob.

You could even make the dashboard lights twinkle on and off. Oh wait, lots of people's electrics do that anyway!

You've got to look under the seats and under the carpets, I found £1.50 and a packet of victory V's in the 740, and in fathers 940 we found almost £3 just down the back of the seats

Mine came with a pair of VERY retro glasses and a rather heavy lighter. Both were hiding in the flap of material that covers the gubbins of the front seat when you tip it forward.
No money or sweets though. :(

I've probably posted about this but I found a cheapo digital wrist watch and almost new Leatherman Micra.

edit: altough I found them three years after I bought the car.

Found nowt in my 480, but found 2 pairs of glasses and two different passport photo's (both of old women) when i swapped the interior over. The glasses found obviously explained the bumper scuffs on each corner too
