Common/Desirable parts

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Common/Desirable parts

Post by Dan the 480 Man » Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:24 pm

After some thought, i've decided to approach Volvo r.e. 480 parts. Now i know what people will be thinking-Volvo will never budge on price-however, if the items are in constant demand, i was thinking that maybe a discount could be negotiated.

Maybe a waste of time, but you never know unless you ask. There are several things i'd like from Volvo, but don't have the kind of money they want. I know if any discount was given that it wouldn't be incredible, but being a dedicated 480 Club, with XXXX amount of members, it may get their attention.

So, as many people as possible put down as many things as you like. Be it a common item such as a washer nozzle to a front foglamp or gasket etc, to a more desireable item like a clear front cluster or rear cluster  If you want to put bodykit down, do it-but i'm only going to approach them with the most popular parts. And that doesn't mean if everyone puts Kit down, i'll be asking as i know Volvo will just laugh

Just make sure you put 'C' or 'D' next to it, i'll make a list-get it to Volvo and wait for a kick in the nu...i mean wait for a positive reply!

As i say, may sound like a stupid idea, but you don't know until you try!

Well I was just talking about doing that very same thing the other day. I think it's a good idea. You don't get if you don't ask and all that! ;) Cheaper parts in general basically! Just compare the parts and prices to VW air-cooled parts and prices, it's a joke! I really can't see how they can justify the stupid prices!

front and rear clusters would be nice. Don't you already get 10% off by saying you are a member of this club or VOC

Stratstone Volvo in Birmingham said they would only give me my VOC discount on parts they already had in stock. So when I ordered a clutch cable I didn't get my discount. I was not impressed. There again, having been to several Stratstone dealers, I would have to say they're usually pretty useless.

Hows about the stuff that goes (read has gone) in most 480's

Things like sensors, bushings, but also the stepmotor? (stappenmotor), rear clusters, seals for windows, antenna etc.

I would have thought clutch cables and clips would be a popular choice.

Thats why i wanted people to list common parts-so i could identify the most 'common' and approach Volvo. If people don't list things i can't get any where!

I don't usually ask for discount on bulbs etc, but we've always managed to get at least a 10% discount of most bigger kit from Rybrook Volvo just by asking (Sue asked when she bought the new front clusters and got 12%off rlp no question).

I'd go for a 10%+universal discount for 480Europe members at Volvo main dealers, most manafacturers do this for their supporting car clubs.

Guess we'd need some club membership cards designing though....Dan....

really good idea to have a club-card.

But what features should it have, and where do we used it for?

I can arrange discounts at local shops in Arnhem and Nijmegen, but that's not usefull for 99% of the members of our 480 club...

Might not even be such a bad idea... though it will take work to set up. Distributing the cards by hand is a lot of work, so a script should be made that can generate a membercard by displaying database content on a blank card. Should be possible, just no insight in how hard it is.

People could download and print the membercard themselves.
