New here - getting a 480

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

New here - getting a 480

Post by aibast » Sun Sep 10, 2006 6:41 pm

Ok, So HI

New here and for the first time in many years I have got some extra cash to get myself a Volvo 480 in adition to my other Volvos - 1973 142GL and 1987 744 TIC.

So this is the car I think I'l get. Has some problems like, the fogs dont work and one electric window, but the motor on it runs the glass just doesnt much. But iIn a whole the car is in good conditon. No rust, engine is good ans smooth running.
I read the buyers quid so I think I know what to look for. One was an irregular idel , but this one works better than my 744's 2,3 litre redblock turbo engine :)

But what do you think. Is it a good one by the pics?

Hi and welcome :D

Nice to see that someone with a heart for the older Volvos also appreciates the 480, not all 200-series / 700-series drivers share your wide taste

The car you linked to seems very, very nice, the best color (in my humble opinion) together with Paris Blue. Nice low mileage, interior (and paintwork) look excellent. Car is clearly imported from Germany (it has inside adjustable headlights, to raise/lower your lightbeam when the car is fully loaded).

Info-center (on board computer) is displaying text, so that's looking good too!

Engine looks dusty, which is good! (as in: no one trying to erase signs of oil leakage).

What I personally would like to find out is if the service history is present. But(!) since the price is only € 1.470,- that should not keep you from buying this beauty.

Oh and: all 480 Turbo came with a front-spoiler (under the bumper) standard, you can ask the owner where the spoiler went

Good luck!

I think the spoiler went with estonian winters and our road care. Usualy there are more holes in the road then there is road itself. + they never tend to get the snow off the roads. And yes I realy love the design of the 480. Cos the rear end is defenetly made after the most beatiful Volvo ever the P1800ES. And if you look the 480ES like that it is a modernised version of that classic car. And getting the 480 as for daily driveing. Cos it gets good milage, not like my Moose Power (744 tic) with its 11-14 l/100km

Ou had some info on the net, that 480 also had a Haas Tuning bodykit? My 744 has the same companys bodykit on it. (a 2005 winter pic)

Hey mate!
Don't hesitate if the car is as clean inside as outside.
If for some reasons you don't buy it ask if owner speaks English.
I've been looking for a turbo like this in this price for about month now.
Good luck!

Actualy have you been to turbobricks.com forum. Posted this little 480 question in there to and was realy suprised how many of these 200/700/900 series guys like this kind of cars.
The best post was this one
that is one of the ugliest things i have ever seen in my entire life

fits right in with the rest of our cars

GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
......
Cos man. face it if you like Volvo's you are either insane or with very individual taste. I yet don't know whitsh one am I :) Cos this car would be my 3 Volvo and 7th in the family. Even my best friend doesn't like Volvos. He even dislikes my 700 series (he drives a BMW 520 auto from 92) and totaly dislikes 480. But all the time we have to get somewhere we go there by my 744. So I think people don't like them but give them respect. Cos the know they are good cars. No mater what they look like. Usualy the drivers are good people not road maniacs.

+ Volvoclub Estonia accepts any Volvo car, even trucks and all other stuff made by Volvo. Actual I have most posts in our clubs forum. one of our members also sold his 850 to get a 480 turbo and a Kia Rio to his wife.

So visit our homepage and forum. www.volvoclub.ee - it's all in estonian, but I think most of Volvo ovners are inteligent people and can figure things out.

I like the fact some people hate the looks of the 480... I've known far more to say they think it's cool though.... at least it is interesting enough for people to have an opinion on it. :D

Drove the car. It's way different thn 700 series. And was a bit dissapointed But after some toughts about it Irealy want one. It did have some problems, like firs I just din't fit behind the wheel (I'm 190cm tall) but after some adjustment fitted perfect. The leather seats should have some more side support, but it's good enough for my driving stile. The passanger seat is also in good position, but the dash looks a bit of, far far away. But also can get used to that. When seats are to my conf. then It's almost no room behind me for other people to sit. But who cares :D So now got to get my money together and buy it. The car moves as well as my 700 series, but more agressivly. The 700 is still a big car so its more lux feeling than sporty. The turbo works good on the car, as does the engine, nice and smooth. The short cluch movement was a big suprise. Being used to the longest ever clutsh pedal on the 700 series. Body is in near perfect condition and the electronics mostly work. Exept the tach.

A - 480ES
B - 480ES turbo
C - 480ES GT

or am I wrong. correct me please cos not been in the 480 so much time. More in 100/200/700/900 series.

the ES badge only applies to one model (ES snobbery there ;) )

The different ones are S, ES, Turbo, GT, GT Turbo, Celebration, Collection, and Collection Turbo - I think thats all of em, there were a couple more limited edidions but they usually still carried an ES or Turbo badge

Sorry to hear about the 700 getting hit, is it a write off then? a shame if it is, looked like a bloody good motor, but good luck with the 480, hope it does you well

And on a side note - I want that moose badge!!!
