My new Celeb
Well ive got the celeb home now. It looked in a very sorry state for itself when i got there flat tyres bushes overgrowing it, i thought there was no way it would move been sat for about 5 months outside brakes locked solid, Got the jump leads on it and it fired staight away bit lumpy at low revs but god knows when it was last serviced not been used properly for over 18 months. Got it home anyway Fairly sound body bit of rust on arches and a few minor dents etc all clusters are damaged and faded but nothing major. The engine sounds ok might give it a rebuild though, the auto box was reconditioned not to long ago so that feels good. front wishbones have collapsed so they require replacement. Interior looks like a bomb has gone off leather is in good condition, but most interior plastic is broken or damaged and its absolutely filthy. So overall not to bad (cant complain for £101 though) Just need to decide what to do with it now ive almost finished my collection dont know wether to start over again on this. (its nice having matching collection and celebration ) Ill get some pics as soon as it stops raining.

What to do
I need to decide what to do with the celeb and im struggling to decide at the moment. I think it is borderline worth saving. At the moment i dont have the time to do it properly i know how much time and money the collection has taken me and i cant justify it at the moment. so the options are.
Put it in long term storage? Need to find storage first
Break it? Dont think i can do it to a celeb though.
Repair it enough to to be road worthy and sell it on?
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers

Well this lot are all going to say save it, regardless of what condition its in. You need to be slightly more pragmatic than that.....
If there is visible rust on the arches, it will be a lot worse underneath, trust me, and if you tart them up a bit you'll still have a rusty car........
Plus its not got a real gearbox
Personally I think you should sell me the seats.....

It comes down to money I'm afraid, would be nice to see it fixed, it is a celeb after all, but is it worth it?
With what you paid for it in the first place you should profit no matter what from selling it on, but how much can you get for it in bits? which way has the bigger profit? (sorry if that sounds rough but the bottom line is the return on it)
Either way you'll make more than you paid so it's a question of time/can you be bothered...
Or do you want the joy of using it? as you say, matching celeb and collection, nice

If you break for spares you have an instant storage problem plus time and hassle selling bits. Also its only worth it if the bits that people want are in good nick.
Quick mend and moveit boyo.
This is the best option cos you are using your expereince to keep a celeb on the road and you should make some money.Repair it enough to to be road worthy and sell it on?

Erm, nope!chris1roll wrote:Well this lot are all going to say save it.....
It is a noble thought do try and do so- but as you just said Rich, it really is quite a task. It is sad when a car has to go but sometimes needs must. Better to be scrapped by you than by someone who has no connection with the club or a wish to help other 480 owners.
I keep thinking about where we will be in say three or four years time, by when, many more 480s have been crushed.
Seems like many are heading that way at the moment.
Not saying this is either good or bad- just musing on the future...
Erm rambling now but I say do what you want to. I suppose I just don't feel the love enough to care to save every car that comes our way.
I am having a similar hard time deciding what to do with my Steel Grey 93 Turbo....

Don't get all blurry eyed over it just because its a celeb. I got carried away with doing the one i had and started fixing little jobs on it that needed doing. It didn't affect the selling price, just my wallet!
I say get it roadworthy and sell it on. If someone comes along looking for a running project then fair enough but it would most likely get bought (in my case i think) by someone looking for a car with 12 months MOT not a celeb.
I too am waffling now so will stop.

Yeah Mart and Rach will regard that comment more as a "double-milfable offence"!Punishable only by sending you persoanlly out Milfing around Weston!
Well Rich,Ive seen ya yesterday and we talked at great length about the car.
After having had a day to museus on it,I say do it up and sell it back to Mr Tate when its finished. As I said yesterday, that was you can keep up with how its doing, bit like rehoming a cat or dog from a shelter!Ha!
U found that plaque yet?

Having broken two ES's recently (I wasn't able to go it to the GT), I would agree there is more money in parts than repairing it. Depends on your personal circumstance, it's a hell of a lot more rewarding to fix it than break it. Plus the biggest cost of anything is time, if you've got the know-how and time it'll still make a profit, bound to be worth £1k in good nick however you look at it, it is a celeb.

Ive finally come to a decision, ive decided to keep the celeb im going to store it for a while and then give it a complete rebuild the engines going to come out and be completely stripped and rebuilt. The car is to good to break. Looking into the cars there is only 10 difference on chassis number must have been behind each other on the production line . Cheers to everyone for the advice.
