Insurance

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

TPFT only though, I assume? Or fully comp for that?

I have been hearing bad things about Adrian Flux not paying out recently - so I hope that either a) it's not true, or b) I don't need to find out, ever...

TPFT of course mate. Fully comp would kill me!!!

As for adrian flux they have just paid my cousin out on his saferia. Current market value is £5000 and they have given him £7500. It was stolen though.

I pay around £900 for mine, with all mods declared, one speeding thingy nearly 3 years ago and 3 accidents (2 non fault, one shared.) in the last 3 years. That's with Adrian Flux, and that's fully comp, which isn't bad at all IMHO...

When I was at university in Coventry, I got some insurance quotes, and discovered they were almost twice the price of what I'd been paying when I was living at home with my parents! As I figured that I spent almost as much time back at home (holidays, and the occasional weekend), I left the insurace adressed there.

Oh, and is there an area of Coventry that isn't dodgy? In the three years that I was there, I got my car smashed into twice - once to steal the radio, and once to try and steal the car itself, and we had our front door kicked in in the middle of the night!

When I was living in Chapelfields by Hersal Common I got charged £1500 for a year fully comp. Granted it was the first year I have ever been driving.

Went down to £800 the year after.

I only know of people having their cars broken into in the City Centre when they left them over night.
That's my car up there, see?

with tesco for both our volvos
pay about £280 fully compfor me and missus as named driver on s40
got 2nd car discount on 480, but had to start with no no claims,so its £551 fully comp for missus and me as named driver
not too bad really....tescos are far cheaper than any of the other quotes.
Missus used to be with volvo with her 340, but it went up stupidly one year, so weve not been near them since.

regards
rob

For the Dutchies of 24 and older www.klassiekerverzekering.nl might be interesting. Valid for cars of 10 years and older, limited to 20000 km a year. I just turned 24 a week ago, but I think I'll go there as soon as I can get rid of my old insurance.

Any good / bad stories about this company?

and here's m 2 pennies worth

33 yo
6 years no claims (1 no fault 4 years ago)
excess ... isnt there always
8000 miles per year (i only do about 5000)
fully comp
Airside Cover ..... dam hard to find that
RAC cover included
Pan-European cover

cost .... 513 GBP
had a quote for 408 GBP though ... just no breakdown cover
and only liability on Airside cover

I thought this was a little high ... but i guess not judging by here.

if you guys are interested ... i was quoted 308 GBP by FRIZZELL ... but no airside cover, so no good for me

Best (worst) insurance I ever heard of was in 1974 when I knew the Fiat dealer in Haverfordwest, Dyfed, South Wales.

The Fiat X19 had just come out (two seater sports car) and this young lad come in and said 'I am 17 and have just passed my test and I want one of them'. Not exactly sure but think the price was in the region of £2,000 - £2,500 new.

The salesman laughed and said I suggest you go and check on your insurance.

The lad came back later that day with cash for the car and said the quote was just under £3,000! When could he pick the car up.

At about this time an average mans' salary was in the region of £4,000 - £5,000.

Regards

Chris
