Did Lotus design the handling set-up for the 480?

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Post by catgroom » Thu Feb 12, 2004 11:09 pm

I have read that Lotus designed the suspension, maybe more, for the 480.Can somebody tell me if this is true or not?If so,I shall be placing 3 "Handling by Lotus" badges on my wings under the indicators and 1 on the rear panel!Subtle, and not liar badges I hope!!!!!

Lotus did indeed influence (redesign?) the suspension on our cars, yes.

So does that apply to the 440/460 also, which I am told shares the same Suspension componants?

I guess so - it would seem pretty unlikely to get the suspension redsigned for just one model in an entire car range, so I'd venture to say yes, all 4x0s have lotus influenced suspension

Spokey dokey's are quite nice though.... Not too sure why you'd want those badges though. You know you have a good car. Dont make yourself look stoopid!!!

I think Lotus did the brakes aswell...not sure whether that's a good thing or not though as the Elan +2's were crap. Mine are well powerful enough as standard though so I'm not complaining!!

no I think brakes were a volvo design, I mean all volvo's brake well. Well, like well dosable.

I am not that fond of lotus. Never made it over here much. and they gave me a lot of sorrow:

After two years of noise (and asking people looking to the rear wheel linkage) I layed under my car the zilioned time to adjust the exhaust, preventing it from hitting the bottom, but this time leaned on the front lower bare arm of the rear axle AND HEARD A FAMILIAR NOISE

What took me and others so long to find the cause for this noise ? Normally this is APK (mot) reject! The front pivot rubber of the bare arm was looking like an old grandma prostitute. :badmood:

Hmmm I'm pretty certain they were of a british design and that Lotus had taken care of the Chassis/Suspension and Brakes. The brakes I'm probably wrong on though so if someone can claify this it will stop me banging my head against the wall tring to remember :? . Lucas perhaps?

never heard of a lotus car, never seen one too. I thought they were a chineese flower....

I am sertain that the marketting info are blown up for the sake of marketting, twisted kinds of half truths.

the engine was develloped with aid of porche. the suspension arms with aid of lotus. I think the truth is (engines came from usine de renault (seen trucks unloading and seen the short engine assembly line) that no porsche engineer ever saw an 480 engine in devellope ment, but the renault/volvo people just used porsche patents.

I know no brit seen a 480's bottom in devellopement.... The people from helmond yust used suspesion system patents on name of this odd brititsh car brand.
luck,
JPF

BBF,

don't want to disappoint you but the first Lotus Esprit rolled from the productionline back in 1976. As far as I know production has beennstopped only recently.

This is the Lotus I like :
