Re: Tow Bar !
I have one but it is attached to my 480 and I dont know how to get it off. Also I would need my lpg gas thing moving... but would be happy to have it off to save a little weight

Re: Tow Bar !
Tow bar held on with 6 bolts 3 each side can be a bit of a bar steward to remove.
the official volvo accessory came as a complete kit....
the complete towbar kit consists of 2 strengthening/load spreading plates 6 long bolts and nuts 6 steel tubes for the bolts to pass through plus the towbar itself which had a blue data plate and a detachable ball.
now you know....

Re: Tow Bar !
Ok thanks Jim!!! Wanderer If you like I could ask my garage how much it would cost to take it off and move my lpg 'hole' and that would be my price I guess? I see it as a benefit to have it off to save a little mpg. Obviously if someone just has one then they will prob come in cheaper!

Re: Tow Bar !
Just out of interest, where do the electrics from the rear trailer socket enter the damp world of the 480's boot & connect to the full electricals?

Re: Tow Bar !
Well i cant speak for everyone but mine went through a grommet on the back of the bit where the spare wheel sits in.
Re: Tow Bar !
Yes, that is my recollection too, from the two I have had fitted to 2 of the 3 480s I've had (so far!). The grommet can be a bit temperamental too, once disturbed, although the upside is that there is a good route for the dreaded water to drain awaysparkysparks wrote:Well i cant speak for everyone but mine went through a grommet on the back of the bit where the spare wheel sits in.
From memory, fitting is reasonably straightforwards, as long as you havethe bolts and strengthening plates that prevent the boot floor from distorting under heavy load.
Re: Tow Bar !
Do any of you towers know if the the trailer lights over ride the cars rear lights (so one switches off the other?) I'm thinking of running a mini amp off the power for the tow bars rear 'plug'? - I wouldnt want to stich of my lights to get a few more watts of the Darkness
Re: Tow Bar !
My experience has been no, there is no override - the trailer lights represent an additional feed from the existing circuit and your car lights must still be able to function in the event of a failure at the trailer end.
I'd be interested in others' views though, as I'm about to fit a towbar and electrics to my 4th 480.. (must be mad!)

Re: Tow Bar !
The one ive taken off had scotch locks on everything on the inside.
1 wire went to the tow indicator light next to the gearstick.
It was genuine volvo, but im dont know it the wiring was.

Re: Tow Bar !
there is no over ride you just splice into the appropriate parts. I had a spare tow bar I sold on several years ago and I might just have a compuetr file of the wiring connections . I will check but it will be Friday before I can get on to it.
