UK Meet Up & UK Register?

Hello,

I see from the club site that the majority (if not all) meetings of 480 enthusiasts seem to take place in continental Europe. So, having recently returned to the 480 fold in the UK after a couple of years away, I was wondering what the appetite might be to organise some kind of a get together for UK based owners? I'd be happy to do the leg work and organisation if there was sufficient interest - let me know!

I'm based in the North West and havent seen another 480 on the road for months. I understand from a variety of sources that there are only around 300 of the cars left on UK roads - is that an accurate estimate?? If so, I was also wondering if anyone had thought of putting together some kind of register, to track the whereabouts of the remaining few and to provide a further support mechanism for those willing to share information and tips. Again I'd be happy to take on the burden of pulling this together, bearing in mind all of the Data Protection caveats etc.

re. A Meet. I'd be up for it. I'd also rather selfishly like to suggest somewhere around Leeds as a location. It's pretty much in the middle of the country and rather conveniently located at the end of the M1!

re. A register. I'm sure it's good idea in ways I've not thought of yet! As Volvo discontinues parts for the 400 series we are more and more reliant on each other for finding spares and advice. As a newbie the help I've had from the people on here has been invaluable.

I'd be up for a meet! Also wouldn't mind travelling to Leeds even though I'm near Aylesbury. Would be nice to actually just see another 480 mine is off the road but is making a come back as my second (and much more fun than the BMW ) car very soon

Great! Thats at least 4 of us now.. How about we aim for a weekend in early September - gives some time to bring more people in, and allows for the (faint) possibility of an improvement in the weather

Leeds has excellent accommodation for those travelling from further afield, plus the roads are good and there are some great places for photo-shoots!

I'd be up for it if i can get it off work. Leeds aint a huge distance for me as im in nottingham. Dont see many 480s round here but when i do its like seeing santa for the first time as a kid haha

Location
Activities
Food / Drink
Press / PR

Date: Saturday 22nd September 2012
Timing - would suggest a lunch-time gathering to allow travelling up, with some 'doing stuff' in the afternoon and a get together in the early evening
Location - will scout Leeds - possibly use one of the public parks or university settings (would need liaison with 'authorities' for permission) - there's also that place off the M62 with the big cinema and shopping complex (Castleford?) Wherever we end up, it needs to be somewhere where we can assemble without causing the wrong kind of interest (of any sort), legally and legitimately. Any ideas??
For the food element I guess some kind of barbecue if the weather is good or arrangement with friendly restaurant if not...
Activities, hmm.. point to point / treasure hunt / beauty parade (for the cars!!) / Photo-shoot
Press /PR - I'm a member of VOC so will contact them about featuring the event in their mag.. Of course we'll publish a write up on here, with pics from participants
