Unavailable parts from volvo

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Unavailable parts from volvo

Post by glasgowjim » Sat Nov 14, 2009 3:54 pm

An increasing number of parts are becoming unavailable from volvo dealers and it would be useful to compile a list of parts so that members if they come across them can start stockpiling these increasingly precious spares.

As and when you find that a part is unavailble post on here and I will update the list on the first post of this thread.

To start the ball rolling the following parts are to my knowledge unavailable in the UK

rear hatch seals
front window weather strips
popup hinges.
front indicator clusters in orange and clear
rear clusters are now expired as well
CEM3.
VESA hubcaps

Have 3 laying around so I had the part number.
At Volvo they fed the part number in the computer and ::: "expired"
He said he thought he coul get it from other Volvo dealers.

I hope so.

Think it dont take long before other parts are also expired.
It's a bother to me.

Well , we all drive a semi classic cheesewedge .

I have started stock piling parts, I love my 480 so much and I wouldn't know what to do if something broke and I couldn't get a replacement :(

Rear lights not cracked or chipped seem to be as rare as hen's teeth especially not faded :(

Front Wings are also not available from Volvo UK according to the dealer I rang.

When people say pop-up hinges are we talking about those motors for the front lights?:)

If so I have one spare set that I don't eve know if they work :(

I will be buying as many as I can haha

Edit:

Has anyone ever modified any off another car?

I mean the small black plastic hinges not the popup motors.
They were available a few months ago but now they are not showing up on the computer system. I will speak to the volvo parts men on Monday to get confirmation.

Are these a common fault?

the hinges last a long time but are designed to break on impact. Quite often when working on the front of the car you can lean on the popup and it will snap :badmood:

It happened to me twice while the car was in the workshop. The first time they fixed it, the other time and another workshop I had to find out myself.

I've seen pop up headlight hinges stocked by Skandix, reassuring for those of us who tend to break these things...
