Another intriguing detail (well, for me at least)

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

I noticed some early cars have on the dashboard a warning light with the letters MAN or MAIN, can't figure it out.

What does it mean?

I can only guess its when a Man is driving it, it activates some amazing features, and this indicator lets you know there on. Main of course being swedish for man.

Or more likely, designated as some sort of maintenance indicator that was never implemented.

Is that not a 'check engine' light on more modern cars? As rgreenhalf states, seems like it's probably related to this.

According to the parts-books, that stripe only had these combinations:

So, it must be related to the Kat or the cruise control?

I don't think it has to be related to one of them. The cruise control and the Cat have no relation either.

There are more things different compared to the newer dashboards I noticed:
The ABS light has a different symbol.
The text at the info center is different.

And the high beam light was blue. - much less glary than the later white ones, as well as of course the red bars at bottom of fuel guage.

Yes I wonder why they changed that? To be honest, I DONT forget to turn them off, but blue is much easier on the eye, and the white is soooo bright!! I wondered if it was a problem with colour peel or something!?!? Now I know everyone suffers with that bright light in the corner of their eyes!! lol

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

If I remember correctly, I have the MAIN section on my dials. It's never been on though so it might have no bulb or it is broken :)

And I have the two red bars on fuel gauge and yes I have the less irritating high beam light :)

Can you please post a photo of this remarkable feature?

I'm very curious how it looks!

I have the blue indicator light for the high beam on both my -88 tics.
But I also have green colour on the two bottom bars of the fuel gauge.

Dashboard with the white light indicator

I think it's the big white dot inside the symbol that hurts the eye because it
stands out too much. Whoever changed it to that really wanted the driver to know the beams were on.

Also note the front fog light indicator in green instead of yellow.

And not for my surprise, the parts-book only has one reference for that strip, undoubtly the later version. :dunno:
