Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Here's an interesting one... how many people "wink" at other 480s when they see them in oncoming traffic?
I saw a White 480S in Wimbledon this morning and as I thought "I'll wink the headlights" and did so, so did the other 480 driver, back at me!
I don't do it all of the time, possibly only 4 outof 10 times.
Any other sad cases that do this?

Nope I don't wink because by the time I spotted them I gone past them so it's a short flash of the lights at most.
I do wave at them on the motorway like a looney.

I actually never meet another 480 the last few months. But when I do I definitely wink

When ever I see a 480 I give the lights a pop. Only had a couple of people respond because more of them were old people who could only just see over the top of the steering wheel

I think it's really friendly flashing other road users.
I have a habbit of flashing Minis, VW Campers, American cars and other classic cars of interest. It's a bit like saying 'Hey, cool car!' with the almighty thumb that does the talking after scaring somebody with two big open eyes and a couple of rays of light!
50% of the time the other road users appreciate it, the other 50% give me a funny look. This I can't understand, because if your driving a cool classic, then surely you expect to get a bit of attention.
I've only ever seen one other 480 on the road here that I've flashed, but it was a lady of an older nature and she didn't pay any attention. Actually, I flashed a 480 from my girlfriends Mini Cooper (a real one) one day and got a pleasing response!

Hey - less of the ageist generalisations - i are one and got my senior rail card to prove it. I rarely wink at other 480s cos same reason as mart but I use them to 'wave' at people I know and it always gets a smile.

I flash as much as I can.
To other 480's and classics. But not everyone appreciates it...

I certainly used to when I drove a 480 as a daily runner.
Mind you, since then, I've thoroughly joined the equine world, and "winking" means something very very different to me now

One's in the garage waiting patiently to have it's replacement bumper and wing put on, the other's still in hiding in as many pieces as you can get a 480 into, because we've done no work on it in 18 months...
