Which GPS Sat-Nav do you use?

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

I use the TomTom go 500 with maps of western europe. Works allright, I especially like the features that warn u for traffic jams and speedcams.

Dont just follow tomtoms directions without looking for myself though. In germany it tried sending me up some kind of loggers route.

My mate used his nav man to get us to the 20years meet -only trouble was it took us through ther centre of Brussels cos it was programmed for shortest route - once in the mire it was ace getting through Brussels. Worked OK on the way back - bypassed Brussels.
During the drive around on the Saturday it did get a bit confused but no more than the other 480s we saw going the opposite way.

Thank you for contacting Navman support. As the maps are already registered against your device, it cannot be de-registered to be sold second hand. This is to protect both Navman and our map provider against software piracy.

Well I was happy with Navwankers until now but so everyone else knows you can't sell the maps on again so now i'm stuck with NZ maps unless I set the machine with it. :kill: :badmood:

I use a TomTom Go 700. Works for me, could do with the map updating a bit. It comes with a decent bracket as well, it doesn't drop off everytime you hit a pot-hole.

I thought about mounting the unit into the dashboard somewhere, but the problem is, it has an internal GPS reciever, so it probably won't work within the dash.

Mine's a Tom Tom, it's awesome and wouldn't be without it now. Saves so much hassle when GF is supposed to be navigating, and especially around cities. I think mine is the One version, yeah, One Europe.

I have a tomtom one GB, and its great. But the tomtom 720 is one of the best. Garmin are a very good make too, wouldn't touch Navman with a barge pole.

I have used a couple of systems, the one in the Jaguars/LandRovers i find the best, they recalculate routes without going mad at you (theres no angry "MAKE A U TURN!!" warnings!!

My friend swears by his which was over £2,500!! Huge screen and upates itself...very clever...but out of most of out price ranges!!

As for TomTom, i found it good when i first used it...i was going on a rally trip in the back of beyond of Wales and a mile or so further, and the tomTom got me there no probs at all. However, on the way back, it couldnt find signal at all, and as i had not made any point in remembering place names on the way in i was totally scuppered  !! Even out of the hills and vales of Wales it was struggling...

Basically, i think it is all personal choice; would be easier if you could try out the various systems before hand and then you know you have got the system for you!

Good luck! ;)

I've ordered one of these...

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125129

(Cheap and hopefully cheerful! (£80))

Apparently it can be hacked to use tom tom software and others... also a speedcamera watch software can be loaded.

What does everyone think? Will let you know what I think when I get it up and running tonight!

Myguide 3100, cheap as chips and after a bit of hackage dirt cheap sat nav that works perfectly around europe. Guided us no problem around Europe !! :D

The IGo / Myguide (or other names that may be used for it) is great, very quick calculations, extremely easy to use.

I even got tomtom working on it, but I don't like the TT display, IGO is much clearer and easier to use etc.

I must have spent £100 for the satnav, 2 gb memory card and other stuff. Bargain me thinks (bought before the summer)

Ian

HAHA just noticed the guy above me has commented about this.
PS. I was one of the first to do this with this satnav as I got it before they were released to the UK, just a bit of fiddling and it's sone of the best purchases I've made this year :)
