6x9 enclosures
There i was trolling through e-bay and stumbled over these!

And that’s when I got to thinking ...
"these are for cars without parcel shelves."
Couldn’t believe it when I saw this picture though ...
However, placed under the 480's boot cover (or without), it might be a feasible alternative to a parcel shelf. They could be velcroed to either side of the boot. I dunno how good they would sound, and I do have my suspicions, but thought it would be worth posting these pictures and link for ideas or discussion!

6x9s hmmmm where do i begin?
Well if you were adamant that you were going to run 6x9s ie you aren't going to run a subwoofer, then they definitely should not go into an enclosure like that. They are designed to run in a large box ie the boot, running them in a small box will not do them any favours.

I thought the same Ed ...Ed. wrote:They are designed to run in a large box ie the boot, running them in a small box will not do them any favours.
6x9's are "free air" speakers as you described!! maybe if the box was 'ported' the air would be allowed to move more freely and therefore not sufficate the speaker?!
I have my 6x9's on a parcel shelf ... but i have never seen these before and thought it was quite interesting!!
does anybody own these?!

WOW ... plenty of speakers in there ... i'd say 10 'rattles' for every speaker ... AT LEAST

Beat me too it mate, as Lee knows i'm running Vibe 6x9 in the rear of my car in sealed enclosures with a sealed sub in the boot.lee wrote:6X9 can be run in enclosures. This is the same as subs. You get both free air and enclosure types.
Vibe and Mbquart to name a few make 6X9 subs which need to go in to an enclosure.
But it depends on what you want from your system, on what gear you need to make that system
