Value for money Speakers

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Value for money Speakers

Post by Brasco » Thu Aug 25, 2005 10:33 pm

I've been looking at the price of speakers and I've seen some which look absolutely great but expensive.
What 13cm speakers are considered the best "bangs for your bucks"?
I've got a sub, so I'm just interested mainly in high and mid reproduction.

I found some lovely kenwood 2-ways in a car down the scrappy - £5 the pair, make my doors sound much better! go for a scavenge in your local scrappy and see what people leave in thier cars when scrapping them, its quite surprising! :hopping:

I bought a set of Pioneers a few years ago (hmmm, time flies...), they were TS-E1395 3-way 160W 13cm speakers and fitted into the doors by cutting 2 little holes in the plasting inside the door (at the back of the speaker, out of sight!).

I love their sound! But it's all relative, just don't think I could have found much better for the money they costed. The type I bought is probably replaced by 1 or 2 successors by now... :dunno:

Personally i would go for a set of Infinty components or coax's. they produce amazing sound quailty, both mid range and tweeterage, for the cash.

Yeah, these fit fine in there. They were recommended on another thread as one of the few that would fit...

Try and stay away from Infinty. Although they are good and well priced they are not up for life as they say. The voice coils are weak and tend to overheat alot.
I would personally recommend:

For components MB QUART. These are of good quality and go all day long at the right price.

For 2/3 ways PIONEER TSE range. These are an excellent range of speaker. When this topic came up some time back I recommended this range to a lot of people on here who took that advice and haven't looks back.

I got hold of some MB Quart QM 130 KN-S.
They seem well made but they're a bit lively... might be because my amps just kaput and so have no sub atm :(
