fitting crossovers and tweeters

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

fitting crossovers and tweeters

Post by Brasco » Thu Aug 25, 2005 7:30 pm

Hi guys,

Having fitted my sub, I'm pretty happy with the results.
I got a Rockford Fosgate amp with an internal passive crossover that's set to low pass which powers the sub in the boot.

I'm hoping to fit tweeters, but I wanted to check with those in the know, are there sites in the car to fit tweeters? I'm thinking of area by the door handles, are these tweeters or part of the alarm?

The four standard speaker mounts are still powered by the head unit. I want to fit crossovers to just send the mid into these. What would be the easiest way? For example, could I fit some sort of compact crossover unit behind the head unit that would do this?

Any ideas/ advice/ recommended products much appreciated. It's all new territory to me. Although I do have a bit of experience with PA's from my DJing days, when it comes to what's good in ICE, I've got a lot to learn!

the parts in the door handle are tweeters, I have my secondary tweeters mounted onthe corners of the dash near the windscreen.

the standard tweeters are not bad
I'd put aditional ones on the dash
I've also replaced the door speakers with Pioneer 2-ways, so effectively, 6 tweeters up front, and 4 in back

I've fitted Pioneers in the back too.... TS-G1318's.... not 2 way though... I'm thinking of splashing out in the front, Groomski swears by alpine... I've seen some nice looking speakers by them... but a tad pricey.

Infinity Reference, or Polk Audio are quite good.

You want to get a passive crossover (high pass) at around 100-200Hz for all the door speakers. You might be able to get away with putting a capacitor in series with the speaker, to create a 6db/oct crossover but I'd go for 12db/oct
