Volvo radio code

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

No, but if it's the original radio in the original car, then any dealer can look up your reg and obtain the code for that radio. Failing that, there's plenty of people with data cables who can simply read the chip with the code on it and tell you what the code is.

Volvo have provided me with the numbers to 2 480 radios and 1 T4 radio without charge. I paid for a fourth radio to be "unlocked" by a man with a data cable - 7 quid.

I'll second that - I emailled my local Volvo garage and the wanted £10 + VAT (and to see the car) to dig out the code, so I was debating whether I should do that or replace the unit with a CD one. On the way to visit my parents I came across their local Volvo garage and pulled in on the off-chance and asked the girl on reception whether they could retrieve the code, she took a look at the VIN, tapped it into the computer and scribbled the code on a piece of paper, no charge.

For a small fee they should be able to dig up the code when you provide a serial number.

Rumour has it that when you put the radio in the freezer for a couple of hours the chip will return to factory-default asking you to choose a security code. Might be a nice one for the Mythbusters, because if it were true people in Northern Europe have a useless security option

I heard it works better if you put it in a microwave.

Well, after 5 minutes the smell became unbearable, so I discontinued microwaving it. Could it be that the power was set too high?

No, you haven't cooked it for long enough, which is why it smells funny. Try another 5 minutes at 100% plus 10 minutes at 60%

As above if it's OE to the car your reg number should suffice.

Rybrook Volvo just gave me the code for my VC802 but it comes up as an invalid code when I try - very odd. Going to try Daniels freezer trick and if that doesn't work it's 15mins on a defrost setting before I take it to a 'radio decoders'.

i have two options for everybody:

www.sweden-parts.nl, ask them in english maybe they can help. you will get a email with a confirm.

or:

http://au.geocities.com/OZBRICK850/radio-codes.html

this site gives a manual how to get your code for 2 radio types. i have done the download and opened the radio. tomorow i will try the radio in my car. i will let you know the end of this story

My VC802 has 2 holes on the face either side - just poke something in those and it will simply pull out of the dash. :)

Bit of wire coat-hanger cut to length and bent into a U shape works wonders.

Radio removal

My radio is a 708. I can't see any of the holes you guys are talking about. Where are they and what do they look like? I need to get it out somehow to put a CD player in. Also the radio code I have has two numbers which are higher than the numbers on the buttons. How do you punch the code in?
