Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Also the radio code I have has two numbers which are higher than the numbers on the buttons. How do you punch the code in?
The holes are on the left and right hand edges of the unit.
The code is normally entered "vcr" style - one button is pressed repeatedly to change the number, and another moves onto the next digit.

Maybe it's my failing eyesight, but I can't see any holes. Do you have to take the face off the radio first? Are they round or are they like slots?

Found them! Thanks John. I thought the cover plates were part of the faceplate.

Can anyone describe exactly how to pull the radio out? I have pushed pieces of hard wire into all four holes and the radio won't budge. What locks it in there?

I usually stick my fingers in the cassette slot and yank it out! Either that or lever it gently from the sides with a wide flat screwdriver with thin cloth over the end
Do it carefully though so you dont break anything!

Remove the cubby hole thing from below the radio and you can give it a shove from behind. I found coathanger wire perfect for the job.

just been looking at the vc601 manual for the radio/cassette that came with the spares car as this is asking for code, I have the code but didn't seem able to enter it. The manual says if an incorrect code is entered you must wait 1 minute before re-attempting, if wrong again 2 min then 4 then 8 etc. So just switched it on and left for a while, just hope someone didn't put in weong 10 times or I think the battery may die before able to input

I still can't budge the radio. Something is holding it in there. I have put as much force on it as I dare, but it doesn't move. Do they sometimes have a bracket on the back holding them in perhaps? If so, do you have to take the dash apart to undo it?

you will have to take your dash apart if the radio is bolted in at the back...

I bet its just the pins. Go to halfrauds and buy the proper pins. I bet you'll find it comes straight out.
At times i can shift them with allen/keys/screwdrivers/coathangers.....but at others i've resorted to breaking the dash.
I remember removing a blaupunkt unit from a fiat tempra in a scrappy, and having to half demolish the car.
After buying a tool it came out of the next car it was fitted to with ease.

What do the special pins look like? Part of the problem is that I don't know how the locking mechanism works. If I can't make something that works I guess I will have to talk to a car radio shop. Hopefully they will have something. I am in Adelaide South Australia by the way.

Here you go.
Should be like 3-4 aussie dollars, no more. Look simple, but hard to replicate.

I just used 4 nails, small enough to fit in holes about 30mm long, pushed them all the way in and out it came. Make sure your pushing the prongs in far enough, you should feel some resistance for the last bit as it pushed the springy bits aside

My brother came round yesterday and got the radio out for me. He took a similar one out of his Range Rover recently and knew how it worked. It looks easy when you know how! I was pushing the lengths of wire in too far. You only have to push them in a few milimetres and wriggle them around a bit to release the locking pins on the outside edge. It helps if you shine a torch in there and can actually see where the locking pins are.
