6x9's in the boot - now with photo's of how they're made.

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Just thought you might like to see what I (with the help from a friend) made at the weekend. I loose very little boot space, can still get to my spare tyre, thanks to the way we fixed them in, and now have some decent bass on my stereo.

Looking good mate. Are you willing to give a description of how you did it? Looks very professional.

I will take them out at the weekend, and take photo's of them from the back. That way you'll be able to see how they're made and held in. Basically, they're wood, covered in carpet, but you probably guessed that!

Wow, that is one of the nicest custom made setups I have ever seen in a 480! So clean and simple :D

I like them, I fancy some extra speakers to improve my sound system and these are out of the way and don’t require any cutting into the interior so I would be interested.

Thanks for all the praise! I'm really pleased with them (as I'm sure you've guessed!)

I have to admit, that whilst I helped fit them, offered suggestions and wired them in, it was my friend (who's a carpenter by trade) who actually made the wodden enclosures and carpeted them. Also, it didn't help that last Saturday (when we made them) was one of the hottest days of the year so far - 36 degrees, according to "el Wedge's" infocenter.

I will remove one of them at the weekend, and take photo's so you can see how they're made and held in place.

I've got my stereo set up so that the front channel is split so it's actually driving the front Pioneer 13cm's in the door, and the standard rear 13cm's in the sides (soon to be upgraded to Pioneer's too). The rear channel is driving the Infinity 6x9's. My stereo also has an option so that you can control which frequencies are sent to the front or back, so I've blocked the very low bass from the 13cm's, and allowed the 6x9's to have the full range.

They did require a small hole to be drilled in the plastic and metalwork behind where they're now positioned, but I figured that I'd either sell them with the car, or could replace that plastic panel from the scrapyard very cheaply.

It works well because you aint got a sub. Have to say i didn't even think out mounting anything there when i had 480.

For those of you running sub it's pointless mounting the 6x9 in the boot, sub will override and interfere with the sound.

I used to park it outside his house, anyway - so it's not moved far!

I've got a 2 channel 300 watt amp sitting around doing nothing - I might just do that. I used to have it wired up to a 12" sub (which I've also still got) when I had my mini.

That looks very good- ideal for me as i need the boot space and thus can't really have a sub. Well done.
