Fitting SR-701 radio
Hi,
I´m about to install a volvo SR-701 radio, amplifier HA-4120 and the tape player TP-701. I bought them from a volvo 960 earlier this year.
Now there is a small problem..
When I took out the old grundig radio from my 480 I discovered there is no volvo connector left..just wires(a real mess ).
Any suggestions? Is volvo selling the connector?
The mess started to bother me

Okey, I haven´t been to the scrapyard but I belive I´ve made some progress:
I read in an old volvo brouchure(from -91) that there is an adapter(volvo nr:1384859) available for the sr-701 if it doesn´t fit straight.
This one:
As I have a spare parts car 480ES -87, I took the connector from it and now I´m so far:
So far it looks okey(I hope), but now I should join the wires to this:
Yeah.... and I´ve haven´t got a clue what goes where as the colours of the wires don´t match..
Would it help if I made a list of all the radio-wires(colours) that comes from the car and what wires comes from the radio? Oh, and then there is the amplifier HA-4120..
but that´s not the biggest problem at the moment.
Someone would surely say "get a decent sony" etc..but I´ve collected some quite nice volvo original accesories:
and the radio would match them perfectly.
Any help appreciated as I´m a "little" lost at the moment..

That connector in the second/third pic looks very much like a 240 series radio connector.
Think you might end up with a trail of adaptors 6 feet long at this rate! At some point, because of the wires in your 480 already being cut, you are going to have to bite the bullet and cut some wires mate....
Does the radio not have a wiring diagram on it?

D'oh re-read your post - I see that part of your adapter came form an 87 ES....maybe they used 240 connectors parts to start with? In that case if your parts car still has battery power, I would recmmend some time with a circuit tester to find which wires do what.
e.g. what gives 12v constant,
What gives 12v switched.
What goes to earth.
Write all this down, then use the wiring diagram from dragons site to see which colours in your current car do what. You then should be able to match them up.

for the cars wiring:
a good way to find what speaker wires go to what speaker is to connect an AA battery to the two wires, whatever speaker the wires go to will give a gentle "pop" and you know whats what!
one yellow wire and one white per speaker.
earth (ground) is the thick brown one.
just need to test to see which wires are switched live and which is constant

Thanks Murf, I will definately try that out! If I can locate all the speakers(back, front, discants) and earth, there´s not too many unidentifiedfor the cars wiring:

Yeah, a cassette player, TP-701. It´s a part of the SR-701 radio, as the radio itself has an equalizer instead of a cassette-deck.what is the thing under the cassette holder, looks like a cassette player?
There is pictures of both in the accesories page. The casetteholder also has a temperature gauge, so when my dead infocenter starts to co-operate I will know the temeprature outside and inside the car

Hello Chiris & Murf!
I´m happy to tell that there is sound in the car
I borrowed a circuit tester from a friend and the AA battery thing(to locate the speakers) worked great!
Some problems are still to be solved, as radio memory, connection to the cassette deck and the amplifier, as the rear speakers need it..but all this will be done when I have time..now I´m just happy there is music in the car again
Cheers
