AMP overload LED

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

AMP overload LED

Post by martinholmesuk » Tue May 03, 2005 2:04 pm

My AMP has power but when I turn the cd-player on it goes into overload and the LED turns on.

Looks like everything is plugged in OK.

Ideas... :)

Driving amp from RCA cables? Make sure they aren't grounding anywhere - metal lip touching the case of the radio, frayed cables, etc.
Also check they arent getting +12 from anywhere!
Getting any hiss through the speakers?

If that all checks out, then it maybe that the amp is getting seriously underpowered, or the driver circuit has fried :(

/edit/
thinking about it, how's the remote link working? I used to have an amp that only had one LED on it, marked as overload, so would glow when the ignition was on, but the remote link from the head unit hadn't kicked it into life, ie standby. Maybe thats wired up wrong - some head units don't strictly follow the ISO standard for the "extras" such as amp remote link

On the amp is says B+ and that's getting 12Volts

There is a back cable for ground but the power light come on for that then I plug the 12volt into the B+ and it overloads

If it does this as soon as the amp is powered up, you may have a blown amp.

What happens if you turn your CD player head unit on, but don't play any music? Does this LED still come on?

Actually, remove the RCAs and turn the head unit on. It should power the amplifier up, does the overload LED come on then?
