vc601 radio, strange connections

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

vc601 radio, strange connections

Post by Scuffer » Tue May 03, 2005 11:48 am

Finally got round to putting my CD player in at the weekend. I got myself an adapter lead specially for the 480. I took the Volvo VC601 tape/radio out, to be confronted with a connection that looked nothing like the one I bought.

Went round to the local Halfords, and got their fitter to take a look. He identifed it from its shape, got me the required part. It was designed for 1990's Fords and Vauxhalls! No mention of any Volvo whatsoever! Absolutely bizarre.

Is this a well known weirdness, or am I missing something?

Exactly what I found. Best to just take a look at the leads out of their boxes. I have a ford - sony lead for my volvo - alpine. Makes loads of sense. No really! I even found a few of the leads to be the same but priced sometimes double...????

That's just madness! It's taught me to have a good look at what is actually there, rather than what should be there.

Still, I now have a spare AUTOLEADS-PC2-43-4 ISO wiring harness. If any one needs one, its yours for the cost of postage.

My sony came with an iso/sony lead, and that plugged straight into my 480, and then straight into my rover...

@JohnTurbo: your 480 probably had the VOLVO-ISO adapter already installed by a previous owner I suspect.

@everyone: what's this:

Does this mean you can hook any audio-device to the CD-changer (DIN) port on the back of a Volvo radio??

Hi, I've just got a new radio, and need to fix it to a 480 (which currently has a vc601), so, Pol or Scuffer... do you know what the part number/specification is for the adapter lead that I need?

I'm searching google for an answer and got directed back to the forum!! I want to fit a VC602 back into an 87 ES but the loom I've got doesn't seem to be the right one. I get the picture about Halfords identifying the correct one as being from 1990's Vauxhalls or fords but I could do with knowing exactly which one it is that I need. Can anyone please advise?? Even a picture would be good if someone wouldn't mind pulling their cd player out and getting a shot of the connections. Cheers :nuts:

Got the correct harness (special order from Halfrauds) and it turns out that it's the same as from the 300 series car. If only I'd known that before!!
