Recommendations for a new CD Player
I’m getting rid of the multi changer in the boot because I am sick to my back teeth of it jumping like fuck ever time I go over the smallest of bumps in the road. So its time for a new one, any recommendations?
Cheers

I'm pretty pleased with my alpine 9825rb. It's nothing too flash, but it sounds good. 50wx4, twisty turney volume knob blah blah... Anyway, it was £150 squid at www.cel-direct.co.uk

I personally fancy a Blaupunkt Woodstock 52.... cos it has DAB and plays MP3s too. Under £300. Looks quite understated. I have no experience of the brand tho.
Has anyone any experience of DAB in cars? Can the existing aerial be used?
Cheers,

blaupunkt are brilliant and would be my recomendation! i think DAB radios do need a special aerial. dont get an FM modulator cos they suck! get a decent HU with an auxiliary input and it will be future proof!
im not a fan of blingin radios but you can get some aftermarket stereos that are fairly "discreet" and not too flashy!
lee, glad i dont stay anywhere near you!!

Alpine, best in the market by far in my opinion. Most manufacturers are bringing out a new range at the end of March/Beginning August, so i'd wait a bit for the new stuff, or for the old (but still good) stuff to go down in price.
On the 14th of March I will be purchasing the brand new Alpine CDA-9855RB, the dogs danglies.

Another separate aerial must be used, usually stuck onto the glass on the inside of the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. DAB radios are much better reception than normal but do cost a bit more. (I usualy just listen to CDs anyway).iammart wrote:I personally fancy a Blaupunkt Woodstock 52.... cos it has DAB and plays MP3s too. Under £300. Looks quite understated. Cheers,
The Woodstock DAB52 is also a bit bright and flashy for my taste, (bright red, white and blue display!) There's also a new version coming out in April (i think) which I hear will be much better, but much more expensive. You pays your money you takes your choice I'm afraid.

Ew, didnt know about that...!Breeze wrote: The Woodstock DAB52 is also a bit bright and flashy for my taste, (bright red, white and blue display!)
My current Sony CD has a white & blue display which is a bit bright for me but I got used to it... does no-one use green these days....?! Much easier on the eyes... And why does everything have to be animated!!! I just want to see what's on the screen then get back to the road in a trice! (sorry, I don't often get to say trice...)
Cheers

Agree with you iammart, I had been looking for a new headunit since the summer, when a bit of magic smoke escaped from mine so it did wierd things, like he volume going up instead of down etc. Any way, all the new ones that i looked at either light up red or blue that would look shit with the rest of the car green, or they have major flashy animations, or just look ugly/chavvy. As for the motorised faceplates, that just strikes me as something else to break! (last unit lasted 5 years)
In the end i went on E-bay and got a sony CDX CA600 for 40 quid, does everything i want, lights up green, not too flashy, 4x50W internal amp, i can still use my changer with it and it has front and rear pre outs, so i might get another amp to drive my speakers.
