Door Build
Ok well I finlly got my arse in gear and started my door build.
Stage 1 - Figure it out on paper
Stage 2 - Cut it out in 12mm MDF
*skip a few stages involving a jigsaw and a router*
Stage 3 - Attach to door cards
Stage 4 - Closeup shot showing door pocket still usable!
As you can see I have done this a little differently to the door builds
in the 'How To' Section. No filler or fibre-glass involved! Door Pockets
still usable.
They do need to be covered yet. Might see if I can't get some of that
alacantara stuff and see what it looks like
A copy of the template is available for the price of postage + a beer.
I could post a 'How To' but as you can see I sorta forgot to take the
inbetween pictures... wrups...

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

They are 5 inchers. They would actually very very nearly fit in original
holes but I wanted to use the supplied grilles.

Now with crossover and tweeter....
I suppose it's pretty chavvy to 'display' your crossover but it's quite
nice looking (I'm a sucker for clear cases) and thats the easiest place
to mount it.
Oh and the tweeter location will require me to take a 60mm hole saw
to the inner door skin... ho hum...

Good work there Cerby . Nice to see a different approach to a door build.
Just shows what you can do with a bit of imagination.
I did have this idea for mine but the speakers I used dictated my bulid.
I too like crossovers and its a shame I have hidden mine .
Can't wait too see them covered.
Oh what do they sound like ?

Ok.. The door build is done. Ready to go back into the car!
We went to the National Resotration Show on Sunday. Picked up an
offcut of foam backed vinyl for a fiver. More than enough for the two
door pods.
Lovingly trimmed and glued by Sam. She's in chrge of anything to
do with material
Just got to drill my door skins and I can get them in and see how they
sound! Bloody rain!

Yep.. She wasn't back from work yet...
Apparently I now have to hoover up the sawdust...
The rain stopped long enough for the drivers door to go on -
Bit too dark to do the passengers door tho. Plus I had to use an angle
grinder to finish the tweeter hole and the neighbours were already
twitching the curtains when I fired it up for a whole 30 seconds at 7pm.
How very dare I!
I'm glad the wife is far more understanding
Tku for the kinds words... I shall pass them on to my trimmer...

Yayyy..! no snow!
Passenger door card is finally on!
They really sound rather lovely! Ok the tweeter positioning isn't 100%
perfect for the front stage (was a bit of a gamble) but I can chnge the
angle of them a bit so have managed to tweak them to be very acceptable.

Very impressive and neat, and you've not sacrificed the storage. The tweeter mod should be quite simple i'd imagine after building that!
I always fancied something similar, but with the crossover recessed so i could pop an LED oout of sight to light it up, but 1), i didn't have the knowledge to build a pocket from MDF, 2) i couldn't afford mids with crossovers 3) i wouldn't have had as much money for cleaning products
Good job though, i like
