Subwoofer making off Thumping noise?

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Subwoofer making off Thumping noise?

Post by murphymanuk » Sat Sep 13, 2008 2:37 pm

Hey there!

I've just installed a new Sub and amp (brandnew) wired her up as per usual and worked fine for a few minutes when testing. However now has developed a deep and repeating 'thudding' 'thumping' noise. When my system is turned up it drowns this noise out, however it is always present.

Any ideas? I've tried reversing wiring and checked my grounding etc... Cabling all seems kosha? Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Cheers guys!

Sorry to hear you have a problem with your new sub & amp .

Have you tried adjusting the gain control as too much can cause clipping.

Is the sub in a dedicated box ? Did you make it yourself ?

If you are happy with the wiring try another sub as you may have a faulty one.

Cheers Kev

Out of Phase wiring (+ and - the wrong way round) would have been my bet. I'm gonna go with Kev and the box being the next line of enquiry?

What are the power values of the amp and sub?

Honda Civic ES I-VTEC

Possibly a bad earth or something fried inside the amp... But both Ross & Kev's sound feasible too...
