Stereo wiring help needed

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

What headunit do you have in currently?

There's a mad mix of wiring behind most 480's when it comes
to headunits. Would help to find out what you have.

take a photo and upload it onto photobucket then send me a pm with or just replie here with the name i should be looking for on there and the photo number i should be able to work it out from there
but off the top of my head

you should have on the back of the head unit

1- red wire for postive
1- yellow wire for memmory
1- black wire for earth/ neutral

then there should be
1-blue wire for the amp remote
then the speaker wires ( various colour depending on manufacturer

in the dash should be
2- red wires ( 1 permanent live for the memmory ) and one that is switchable through the ignition key ( i think this is stripped )
1- black / brown wire for the earth/ neutral
Hope this helps

Smooth :D

Shame, I could have told you what wiring you had by the model of
HU that was in there! (there are at least 3 variants).

Can we get a picture of your current connects? or have you snipped
them off already?

Tip tip if you are going the splice n solder route be aware that the info centre
power feed is bundled in the HU wiring and forgetting to add it back in
will result in no infocentre.

Mines got a sticker on my standard unit telling me what wires go where and do what...does yours? Sounds a daft question, but it took me about 15 mins of searching thro the Bible for diagrams or photos, picked up the unit it disgust to take pics and there it was...the sticker that told all!! ;)

Image

from looking at the pic he sent me it looks like the wires bundled together at the front ( the longer ones wih connectors on ) are the power leads

just a guess as im no there with a multi meter from left to right
power ( thick red )
memmory ( thin red )
earth ( brown)
just wondering what the blue wire is with the connector ???? Ilumination perhaps ???

I havent had time to look at mine yet but my guess the blue wire with the connector is probably the power antenna.

You should have a constant live, a ignition live, an earth and a power antenna. then you will have 4 pairs of speaker wires, these are usualy denoted by a base colour (speaker +) and a base colour and stripe (speaker -) you can then sort out which one is which speaker using a pp3 battery just dab (and i mean just dab)your pairs on the terminals of the pp3 and you will then hear a click from the speaker, label the pairs front left ect and job done. shame im not closer or i would offer to have a look for you.

Just when i was feeling chuffed about the stereo install,i went to go out in the car last night and the pop ups won't lift up.
Is it likely i've blown a fuse? where is it and what colour? I don't have a Haynes manual. My bulb on the info centre went the other day too,or does that have a fuse that i might of blown too ?
Any advice helpful, then i'll be off to the fuse shop !
