Ariel switch

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Ariel switch

Post by kev » Wed Sep 19, 2007 3:04 pm

Got fed up with the ariel going up and down every time the
headunit is switched on so deciided to do something about it.

I took inspiration from Dan the 480 man and wired an isolation
switch into the existing bank of switches.

I think it looks neat and when listening to a CD or the I-pod no ariel
spoiling the look of the car.

This may be a noddy question, but where is that wired to? Is it just an in-line on the aerial power going to the back of the head unit, or something more complicated?

Neat job though.

All I did was cut into the blue signal wire coming from the head

unit loom to the ariel. This is an Alpine diagram.

Hope this explains it.

Fantastic! ... i've done this too! I noticed you opted for symmatry with the buttons also ... it was a tough choice! lol!

It's great ... total silence when you turn on the head unit!

oh, BTW ... volvo wanted £17 for that switch new ... mental! :bla:

I done the same in my 440. Hated the ariel going up and down-it does spoil the lines of the car.

Thats how i wired mine initially, then i had a hidden switch, now it's on my little panel with a nice LED so i can see it switched on. Totally un-necessary, but looks good. :D

Good job there Kev-so annoying having the ariel go up and down. Good choice on HU too ;)

Has the 480 standard an electric antenna? I have an antenna wire, but I don't know where to plug it in to on the radio.
