Wired for sound

Thanks for your kind comments. That system was actually built back in 2002. I think it took a couple of weeks to build, but i wasn't particularly good at woodwork then (still not

) and was just taking my time on it. The box took the longest to build, but was built to last and is actually sitting in my living room ready for use with my home system.

Does anyone else have any install pics they care to share?

Some nice and simple installs there. One issue i have with my current install is weight. I have the richmod on my car, but i feel it could be significantly faster if the boot was empty. Oh well.... can't have it all i guess.

Bought another amp to power the speakers.So had to move the existing
amp to the side of the sub woofer and placed the new amp on the other
side.I then decided to make a cover to tidy the area.
See what you think.

Thats it now time to listen and enjoy.Unless you have any ideas?]

Very neat job there, i'm impressed!

Whats the difference in sound like as you have the sub pointing through the rear seats. If you see my pic above, mines just pointing at the roof lining-does it sound more 'bassy' pointing forward or just normal??

Yep, i def. feel a re-build in the new year...

Thanks for your comments Dan.The sound is punchy and very musical
as its a 10" sub the bass is controled rather than overpowering.
The idea of it facing forward was to prevent muffling although I havn`t
heard one in the position like yours.Does having the rear cover on have
an effect?Look forward in seeing what you do in the new year.

Bass waves are non directional so shouldnt matter what way the sub is facing. Nor would it make it 'louder'

You are correct, bass is omi directional, but only below certain frequencies though. If you try the sub in different positions, you will find that it will sound bassier in some positions and not others. The bass may integrate better with the front end better in certain positions.

With regards to it being louder, yes it does. I have been a dB drag competitor (sound off for loud cars) in the UK for over 3 years now and have built a few loud installs. The positioning of the box can affect its performance by anything upto 1-2dB.

Thats is correct as each car has it's own harmonics. This is where sound deadening is vital.

Also there you should have midbass drivers inside the cabin as these "bass reforce" the waves coming from the boot. When speakers such as 6x9 are placed in the parcel shelf they interfere with sub frequencies rather than reinforce.
