double din

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

double din

Post by hjkort » Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:00 pm

Did anybody ever tried to fit a double din sized headunit from an 850, V/S70 into his or her car?
I am considering buying one.

I don't know of anybody that has... I know 'Red' took out his CD player and Turbo dials and built a custom surround to house a touch screen PC kinda thing. 'Roo' also has (or did have) 2 units-one in the CD player slot and one in the Turbo dials slot, with the dials re-located to the centre-console...

Not sure if anybody else has though... :dunno:

I think I'll locate the 2din unit in the centreconsole. I like that position better for such a heavy unit.

I did have two DIN units in the dash for a while but it was a VERY tight fit and i've since returned it back to standard because i didnt like the guages being out of sight in the lower console and I now prefer the more standard look.

you mean the lower centre console? i'm afraid there wont be enough space for it. better check this before you buy it.

Looking at the picture of Roo, I can see what you mean...
Better try to get in two single din units to see if that fits... Afraid not

I have been thinking about fitting a HU1205 Volvo radio/navigation unit for a while, but kinda stopped thinking about it. I am now quite pleased with my single DIN Volvo headunit and a PDA with TomTom :)

It is possible, but indeed: you will loose the meters below the radio.
