Merc SL type rubber aerial - poss?

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

Merc SL type rubber aerial - poss?

Post by L8ERS » Sun Sep 24, 2006 12:22 am

I have a duff motor on my aerial rather than fixing it I would like to replace it with a short (2 inches) rubber aerial stub like that on the Merc SL. Is this possible? Has anyone done it before?

I don't know if it can be done easily. I tried to fit in some different types of antennas, but the hole and the angle of the hole in the body are not very standard.

I can look for this stubby antenna this saturday and compare it to the original one.

You probably need an amplifier, but these are either cheap to buy, or they are integrated with the antenna. So I think it's not that hard to change.

Don't know if it's going to look nice though...

I suspect that the aerial in that photo is for a DAB radio, rather than a regular analogue one, so may not be much use unless you have a DAB head-unit.
