Yet another tray

Yup, I was enjoying the posts similar to this one too much to let it slide, so I found a nice big chunk of wood in the garage, and set about making it...

I got a couple of the measurements just out, but nothing too drastic, as you can see :)

I've just gotta decide what kind of opening I'll be putting in for boot access, and also cut the holes (before I cover it all - maybe some nice tiger print? ;))

So yeah, it's chipboard as you can see - bit chunky, but I can't imagine it being much heavier than MDF, 'tis just a bit thicker, is all...

Any advice or comments at this stage, from those in the know? :D

Make sure the rear seats are fully reclined (if thats the way you like them) before you go cutting holes! ;)

Aye it's all slotted in perfect and the seats can't go back any further :)

A question about the speaker wires:
I've got an '89 ES and there are no rear speakers in it right now... Am I right in thinking the wires for them are located underneath the 'magazine holders' at the sides of the rear seats? (And how do I go about taking them out?)

To get at the 'magazine holders' there is a wee rectangle bit at the base of the storage bin which you gently prize up with a screw driver revealing a screw. then take the bottom part of the seat out and you'll see an arc at the bottom of the bin. Poke a pillips screw driver through the arc and loosen the screw holding the bin in place. It lifts out driver side first if i remember correctly. hey presto!

As for if the actual wires will being there ... i've not the foggiest!! :lol:

Well I finally got round to getting the side panel things up, to discover that there were no cables under there. (Only the strip-type ones, and I figured they go through for the lights and such)
Sooo, it looks like I'm gonna have to put my own wires in from the dash following the same line that the existing cables take under the carpet edge.

Any advice on what I should wire them into? :D

speakers?

I personally wouldn't bother with running any full range speakers in the rear. I would rather run cabling for an amp and have a sub in the boot, Dan the 480 man style. I would then drill holes into the parcel shelf and cover it up with acoustic cloth, this will let the bass into the cabin.

They will be kicking about that area somewhere, just keep looking! Lift up the seat bases and feel about under the carpet, they will be there!

i've done this - found the wires but they didn't work!! :badmood:
which is so weird as when it comes to ICE i know what im doing :wink: so had to root some new wiring from the head unit
