Radio for volvo 480 s TT 1992
Hello
Can someone give me some information about the correct radio that I can put in my 480s TT from 1992. I do have checked the radio's on the website, but I'm not sure which one will fit. I do have the original wiring in the car.
Thanks wim

Does your car have ISO leads? It's an easy check, either it will have one main plug for the stereo wiring, and four small ones for the speaker. Otherwise it will have two almost identical connectors and no separate speaker wires (this is the ISO leads). If you've got ISO's no problem, any bog standard stereo will go, and you options are quite good even if you want a Volvo one. Otherwise you'll have to put a Volvo stereo in it or modify the wiring, I've a VC-708 with the older style wiring if you're stuck.

Sorry, thought it best to clarify, with Pictures this time....
The old Volvo loom looks like this:
You should have four of the little connectors as each of these are speaker wires for the four in the car (wiring for four is usually there even if speakers are not). This is the wiring you need for the VC-708 to work.
These are the newer ISO style connectors:
Bear in mind they come in all colours, it makes no difference to thier compatibility.
The VC-708 is shown below.
I'll happilly let you have it if it's of use, for the cost of delivery, bear in mind that's from England. I will point out, I've no way to test it, however it worked just fine when it came out the car and has been dry stored since, so no reason to believe otherwise. Also I don't have the code, this is not a problem as we disabled it on the unit (you can do this perminantly on these units) so it won't ask for it. However, I know which car it was from and can prove we scrapped it, so if it really bothers you, I'd imagine I could track it down from Volvo.
If you have the newer connectors I can supply a Phillips radio-cassette for a nominal price, however I get the feeling your after a proper Volvo one?
Hope this helps.

No idea then, perhaps they were different outside of the UK, but them's the only two types of connection I know of on UK cars.
If your not too bothered about having a Volvo stereo, the best thing to do is buy a set of ISO leads, and wire them into your car, this does mean cutting the factory leads though, however then any standard ISO stereo will fit it.
You might find you can also get an adaptor to convert the leads to ISO's, Autoleads are the best for this in the UK, they usually have details of makes and models they support on their website, but I'm certain they never made any for the 480.

I can get one for you. However the connectors in the top picture above is the wiring that I cut out of the car that's still in the back of the stereo. If you have these connectors then it'll be fine. Just note there would be four of the little ones not two assuming you had four sets of speaker wire in the car, which I am sure is standard on all 480's even if you only have two speakers installed.
Pic's above of rear and wiring diagram printed upon it.
