front speaker - which ones??

Here you can post things about ICE (In Car Entertainment). Like how to install GPS navigation, a DVD-player and other yuppie-stuff. This category might be moved to "those other things" in the end...

front speaker - which ones??

Post by Cooper » Fri May 19, 2006 10:02 pm

Anyone know which speakers I should go for to upgrade my Volvo front ones? I usually go for Pioneer or Alpine - whichever I go for I want them to fit OK so I can get the standard speaker cover grille on. Want a pretty good speaker but about £40 or so max (cheaper if poss.).

How difficult are they to change?

Any advice gratefully received as ever.

Cooper

Wish Id known Alpine did some to fit mine!

OK,I use JBL.You can get these at Halfrauds for around the £35-£40 mark.
They're the ones with the swivelling tweeters. They bring the vocals out very strongly in tracks with, well, singing!

Alpine for all other Hi-Fi in mine though, and wish I knew these existed,at £48.99!!! :cryhard:

Good Luck with that!

Wow - the Alpines look pretty smart but £50 is a bit over budget. Only an extra £10 mind - Decisions, decisions..............
Rytis - did you get the tweeters as well - did the speakers allow you to retain the existing door grilles?
Steve - did you use the Autoleads speaker adapter or do you not need it?

Some other options from Pioneer - anyone tried these?

No Autoleads connectors at all Cooper.

I just put spades on the end and connected up.

Not real garden ones naturally :D

Rytis - did you need to modify the standard tweeter mounting in the door to get the Alpine ones to fit? Am seriously considering the SXS 1357's but don't want to get into any tricky stuff changing grilles/mountings etc.

Thanks! Cooper

Well, mounting is not standart and you need either to modify it of simply wrap up to some 3M band (like I did) and put it in.

I do not have any problems with that.... Tweeters do not generate bass like mid ones do :)
