Any really useful Rusty bolt removing tips needed!

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Any really useful Rusty bolt removing tips needed!

Post by MatBat » Thu Jan 01, 2004 4:35 pm

I am trying to remove the Cat & Lamda Sond. The silencer end of cat unbolted fine, but the manifold end is reallyin accesable and rusted to buggery! AAAgggghhh! I thought only british cars were this bad! This is the only rusty bit on the whole car!

Help would be SO appreciated

angle grinder or small blow torch. In the exhaust shops they don't even border to take a wrench.

Use fitting 6 side sockets.

Some hammer blows on the head and the nut will help too. Not forgetting WD 40, and the likes. In other cases than an exhaust (it hangs loose and has no countermass) a small sharp chisel will help radialwise on a big nut.
luck,

my mate managed to aquire from the quarry he works at, some really really thin cutting discs for the 6" mini grinder. Don't know what they are amde of but they piss thrrough anything (quicker than a nomal disc in the 9"!. I thought they would just disintegrate when i saw them. Any way this is what I used to cut the bolts off the cat on my sis's car, easier to manoever when yyour lying on your back!

I hope you mean when under the car!

I might just nip round to Kwik fit, depending on what they charge.

Surface drive sockets are the best for exhaust bolts, or any rusty bolts come to that, they drive off the flats, not the corners.
Try Halfords Professional range, they're absolutely identical to the Sykes Pickavent ones i have, but a lot cheaper. They're also on sale at the moment.

It's the phosphoric acid it contains, converts Fe2 to Fe3. Pepsi Max contains even higher levels. (and one of the reasons the latter should never ever be given to children).
