Finally solved? Sealed the rear-window hinges...

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Finally solved? Sealed the rear-window hinges...

Post by coyote1980 » Mon Dec 29, 2003 1:07 pm

Hi everyone,

Hope my 480 is, from now on, as dry as the nevada desert :D I have loosened the left hinge from the rear window, put liquid gasket wherever I thought there was the possibility of water entering the vehicle, and tightened everything again. Please, let it rain PLENTY! ;)

I am sure it was the hinge as the rubber seal on the inside of the hinge was soaked  Also the floormat in the trunk was wetter than a sponge when washing my car :cryhard:

Well, let's see if this does the trick then.

donot wait for rain, get a garden hose and lock your selves in the car.

It can also be water leaking allong the much discussed roof rubber (the roof isn't welded! )running from front to rear window.., this water can also get in the car via the holes you describe.

well keep us informed...
luck,
JPF

I'll keep you updated. Always recommend the garden-hose trick, but no garden hose nearby (and no tap to fit it on, urban region..).

Was hopeing it would have rained by now, maybe I'll pop out with some 1.5L bottles of water and pour them over it :)

Closer inspection today (and a big bucket of water) have made me see that the water gets in where the wiring for 3rd brakelight / rear-wiper is attached to the rear-window.

*damn*, don't have any black kit here, must buy some first :(
